500 Days of Summer actress Zooey Deschanel married Death Cab for Cutie frontman Ben Gibbard on Saturday night near Seattle.  I’ve only become familiar with Zooey’s work recently, but I really like her.  She was on Top Chef Masters a few weeks ago — God, that show sucked.  Beyond having more food restrictions than I have (no gluten or soy and she’s vegan), she seems to be very likable and down to earth.

Anyway, I’m trying to imagine what their wedding reception meal was like.  Water, arugula and strawberries?

Congrats to the happy couple!  And please, make sure you reproduce — eyes like yours shouldn’t be wasted!

Zooey Deschanel

Many of us die-hard Zooey Deschanel fans have fallen in love with her on more than just the big screen — her debut album with her band, She & Him, was called Volume One and exceeded everyone’s expectations. It’s a really great album! If you haven’t heard it, I’d highly recommend checking it out.

So it’s fantastic to hear that the newly engaged Zooey is recording a follow-up album with her musical partner, M. Ward.

“We’re working on it. I can’t say exactly when it will be finished. … Give me some time! I need a break!” she says. “I’ve been writing a lot, and we’ve been recording some, so, hopefully, I don’t know. I don’t want to put a number on it, but it’s going well and, I mean, it’s fun, as always.”

It’s Engagement Season!

Zooey Deschanel and Ben Gibbard Engaged Pictures Photos

Everyone’s getting in their Christmas proposals.

Up now: Love of my life Zooey Deschanel, who got engaged to Death Cab for Cutie lead singer Ben Gibbard over the holidays.

I had no idea the two were together.

I saw Ben perform live at a Rhapsody party this summer. I would have been waaaay more interested in him if I’d known he were dating Zooey. Luckily, his good pal John Krasinski showed up to support him that night, so I had someone to swoon over.

Zooey Deschanel Is Not Your Whore

Tuesday, December 16th, 2008

If you haven’t heard Zooey Deschanel’s actual album — as part of a fabulous band called She and Him — I’d recommend you check it out immediately, because it’s awesome, and it’s exactly what you’d expect out of Zooey.

Until then, though, here’s a clip from Zooey’s new flick, Yes Man, where her character sings a little feminist ditty about not being a whore.

God, I love Zooey Deschanel. She’s just the absolute coolest. I’ll watch anything with her in it.

Anyway, it turns out she just teamed up with singer-songwriter M. Ward to release an album under the band name “She and Him.” The album’s called Volume 1. I’m listening to it right now on my Rhapsody player. It’s pretty much exactly what you’d expect from Zooey — folksy, fun, and just way cool.

Zooey Deschanel Set to Play Janis

Thursday, August 17th, 2006

The fabulous Zooey Deschanel has won sought-after role of Janis Joplin, in The Gospel of Janis, which starts filming in November. If you’ve seen Failure to Launch, you understand what a glorious thing this is. If you have not seen Failure to Launch, rent it (and fast-forward through the parts that don’t have Zooey Deschanel in them). Deschanel won the role over a group that included Britney Spears, Lindsay Lohan and ScoJo.

“Punk” singer Pink was the first choice of director Penelope Spheeris for the role. She dropped out of the race, claiming that the producers had turned the casting into “some circus pop contest–who’s the ‘it’ girl who wants to play Janis,” and certainly not because her ego and her drinking problem couldn’t cope with the intensity and competition of what industry insiders refer to as “the casting process.”

Good riddance, Pinky Poo! I was not excited for this movie, but now that Zooey’s been cast, I can’t wait!
