Taylor Momsen Is Smokin’ … Literally!

Wednesday, January 27th, 2010

We had a lovely conversation on here yesterday about whether Taylor “I Don’t Give a Fuck” Momsen’s “I Don’t Give a Fuck” attitude was cool or un-cool. So how fitting that, today, photos of the 16-year-old smoking a cigarette on the set of Gossip Girl surfaced. Cool or un-cool, y’all?

Here’s my take on the whole thing: The girl’s 16 years old. She was like 14 when she landed the Gossip Girl gig. She really didn’t sign up to be anyone’s role model. She was just suddenly rich and famous and an underage sex symbol practically overnight, and I’d be lying if I told you I’d have responded any differently to that scenario as a teenager. Do I think smoking’s cool? Eh. I quit last year, but there’s still something very old-Hollywood glamor about it, not gonna lie.

I still love you, Taylor, even if you are the next Lindsay Lohan. Then again, I’m kind of financially invested in finding the next Lindsay Lohan, so I’m not entirely unbiased here. Smoke on, Momsen.

Taylor Momsen is Awesome

Tuesday, January 26th, 2010

Taylor Momsen did an interview with TimesOnline and wowewowwow! It is chock full of really awesome quotes. I don’t know who told this girl that she should be honest to the point of complete irreverence, but I love them. Here’s some of her best quotes from the interview:

On being a role model: “To be honest, I don’t f***ing care. I didn’t get into this to be a role model. So I’m sorry if I’m influencing your kids in a way that you don’t like, but I can’t be responsible for their actions. I don’t care.”

On her new fame: “It’s insane. I literally can’t go out without being interrupted. It’s wild”

On the haters: “Online, there’s a thousand people who are just so mean. There are so many negative comments about just the pettiest things that you can’t even read it.”

On why she’s not like Miley: “Honestly, if I’d have ended up as Hannah Montana, I don’t know if the show would have gone as well. I probably would have told them all to go f*** themselves by the time I hit 11. And I don’t know how that would have gone down. It’s great for Miley, but I really like where I am right now and I feel really fortunate to be able to really be myself.”

On her pals: “I have, like, no friends my age”

On rude mothers: “My favourite blogs are where you get the mothers saying, ‘She’s the worst influence on my daughter, I would never let my daughter dress like that’, or, ‘This girl’s such a whore, she’s a slut’. And I’m, like, you’re a mother! And I’m 16.”

The whole piece is worth a read over, but I have to say: The way this chick talks is impressive. To be sixteen and not give a fuck on this level is pretty remarkable. Most of us, I feel, spend the majority of our late teens and early 20s trying to figure out how to be this “ourselves”, right? I think we can all take a lesson from Taylor Momsen. Except, like, try and care about Haiti a little more than she does, OK?

“Um, right now I’m trying to just finish my record and getting through the last season of Gossip Girl for right now. So not so much thinking about that.”

- Taylor Momsen, responding to OK Magazine’s question about her thoughts on the 7.0 earthquake in Haiti.

Taylor Momsen

So when I first saw this picture I was all “Oh, wow! Britney Spears looks really good!” and then I took a moment and realized that she would have had to get work done to get her face looking this youthful again. And then I read that it was Taylor Momsen. And then my soul cried.

The sixteen year old was photographed walking to work today, not on the corner, but the set of Gossip Girl. This is how she dresses before she gets to set? The energy that this girl must have is insane. Who wakes up and puts on a garter and a miniskirt? As much as her age makes this look completely not OK, it could really only be a sixteen year old who would have it in them to put in this kind of effort before 8 AM. Bless that child.

Taylor Momsen Pukes On Set

Taylor Momsen's Sick!

Who’s that blond puking in the bushes in Central Park? No, it’s not a homeless woman or even a misguided hipster still lost on their way home to Williamsburg from last night’s epic PBR bender. Nope, it’s Gossip Girl’s Taylor Momsen, who despite clearly feeling under the weather was on set today filming scenes in the park. While the 16 year old who’s notorious for her wild and sexy outfits and love of the nightlife could just have a bug, you can’t help but wonder if this little puke sesh was the result of a late night partying.

Taylor Momsen struts her stuff while filming an episode of Gossip Girl in NYC. You know what, bitches? My legs were than thin when I was 16, too. And the drugs I was doing weren’t half as potent as the shit I’m sure Taylor’s getting her hands on. SO THERE.

Taylor Momsen Goes Out in Underwear

I’ve talked before about Gossip Girl’s Taylor Momsen and how I believe that she’s headed for disaster.  She’s 16 and way too young to be working the clubs.  I can’t help it — it’s the mother in me.  I want to wrap her in a blanket and enroll her in some college classes.  Also, because of her age, I tread carefully.  She’s still just a kid even if she, her mother and her entire management team don’t remember that.

An E! reporter asked her about her fashion choices backstage at the G-Star Raw show this week:

“I don’t care.  I think if everyone’s going to be so upset about what I’m wearing, I’m like, ‘well, maybe you should look at your life a little more. I don’t know why you’re so obsessed with mine.’  Music inspires me.  Fashion means everything. I mean, it’s art. Art means everything to me, so fashion’s another side of it. It’s expression, it’s music, it’s a way of showing and really being who you are in your own way that no one can take away from you.”

Garter belts and thigh highs on a 16 year old doesn’t feel like art to me; it feels criminal.
