Patrick Swayze Tribute

Thursday, September 24th, 2009

Last night the cast of Dancing With The Stars did a special tribute to Patrick Swayze from his Dirty Dancing Days.  I’m not gonna lie, it choked me up a little bit.

Despite my hormonal self, I watched One Last Dance — has anyone ever seen that movie? — the other day.  It was the last movie he made with his wife Lisa Niemi.  Pretty horrible flick if you ask me, but it was just so sad to see how healthy and vital Swayze looked just six years ago.

Suzanne Somers: “Patrick Swayze Was Poisoned”

Suzanne Somers in 2007

I love it when celebs pontificate on complex issues such as Middle Eastern politics or life-saving medical treatment, as if being able to cry on cue makes them an expert in every field. Suzanne Somers is particularly adroit at this method of putting her perky little foot in her perky little mouth.

Recently, Somers — whose oncological experience consists of one season of Three’s Company and stage kissing Patrick Duffy –  asserted that Patrick Swayze died not from pancreatic cancer, but because his doctors poisoned him with chemotherapy.

“They took a beautiful man,” Somers said, “and put poison in his body. Why couldn’t they have built him up nutritionally and gotten rid of the toxins?… I hate to be this controversial… but I have to speak out.”

Of course! Everyone knows that the cure for aggressive pancreatic cancer is organic veggies and squeezing out a few rounds on your ThighMaster.

It’s too bad Ms. Somers has not yet discovered a cure for leather neck-itis

RIP Patrick Swayze

I just heard the terrible news that Patrick Swayze has passed away at the age of 57, after a long battle with pancreatic cancer. He was diagnosed with the cancer in January 2008, and, from what I can tell, he survived much longer than doctors initially expected. His publicist says he died with his family by his side.

Patrick was extremely proud of his final piece of work, the A&E series The Beast, in which he starred following his cancer diagnosis.

RIP, Patrick.

I Thought I Was Having A Bad Day?

I need to whine.  Can we talk about my day?  It hasn’t been a good one.

I have a sick husband at home, and if you’ve ever had an ailing male in your care you know that it just isn’t an easy situation to deal with.  I’m guilty of assault with a deadly glare.

Oh, and I went to the dentist today which is always the least fun I can possibly have while laying on my back.  Unless I’m giving birth, of course.  As she poked and prodded around my mouth and told me (for the second time in six months) that she doesn’t think I have cancer, she referred me to a surgeon nonetheless.  Trust me, the irony of a snarky gossip blogger with mouth cancer isn’t lost on me.

I almost burned my gluten-free macaroni and cheese because my sick husband, the one who promised to keep an eye on it, did not.

So, yeah.  It hasn’t been a great day.  But guess what?  My day is a million times better than Patrick Swayze’s day since a radio station reported him as dead this morning.  His rep released this statement:  This is to confirm that Patrick Swayze did not pass away this morning contrary to severely reckless reports stemming from a radio station in Jacksonville, Florida.  Patrick Swayze is alive, well and is enjoying his life and he continues to respond to treatment.”

The poor dude is battling pancreatic cancer, probably enjoying the sun, smoking a cigarette and the condolence calls start coming in.  That is a bad day.

Patrick Swayze Is NOT Stopping Cancer Treatments

Despite what was widely reported this morning based on a National Enquirer story, Patrick Swayze’s rep insists the actor has not stopped treatment for his pancreatic cancer and claims that he is “continuing his treatment.”

I’m so confused by all these conflicting stories about Patrick’s condition, and I hate that the National Enquirer would exploit a man’s battle with cancer like this. Shut up, National Enquirer.

Patrick Swayze Stops Cancer Treatments

After his last bout with pneumonia, Patrick Swayze has decided to stop all chemotherapy.  According to his doctors, he made the decision after being told that he is out of options.  The goal now will be to keep him comfortable through palliative care.  A friend of Swayze’s said, “Patrick regards himself as a cowboy, and is determined to die with his boots on and no regrets.”

The average person diagnosed with his type of pancreatic cancer dies within six months of diagnosis; Swayze has made it a year.  Lots of prayers and positive thoughts to Patrick and his family.

Get Better Patrick!!!

Patrick Swayze has checked into the hospital for observation after coming down with pneumonia as a result of chemotherapy. He is hopeful that he will be released soon, and get back to promoting The Beast, his new TV show with A&E.

Meanwhile, I promise to stop texting people to complain about the flu I have today.

Our thoughts are with you, Patrick!!!
