Last night CNN hosted their Heroes 2009 gala and just about everyone you could think of was in attendance. In fact, it’s easier to think of who wasn’t there than who was there. Britney, Paris, Lindsay… I guess they must be totally over because they were no shows. What about our tampon-tease Tila? Where was she? Surely she is a hero of sorts. Who did make it? The Rock, Carrie Underwood, AnnaLynne McCord who seems to be absolutely everywhere these days. Debi Mazar was there, looking fierce as hell per usual.

Awww, I really feel for NPH, because I am always having to pee at the most inopportune times, but this story really had me cracking up:

At last night’s fan event for How I Met Your Mother at the TV Academy in North Hollywood, NPH made a dash for the bathroom in the middle of the panel discussion (proving even his two preggo costars, Alyson Hannigan and Cobie Smulders, are better at holding it).

Bad luck for Neil though, since Jason Segel remembered his buddy still had his mic on. Over the crowd’s laughter, we fans could hear that Neil took a tip from Jack Donaghy and gave himself a little pep talk, saying, “Wake up!” before a publicist bolted in to tell him he was not alone.

Onstage, Segel exclaimed, “This never happens in real life!” to which Josh Radnor replied, “It’s like an episode of 30 Rock.”

Why was he telling his penis to wake up?

Isn’t that what you do when you’re trying to have sex, not pee?

There is clearly something about the male urination process that I don’t quite understand.

It’s not every day that the AP issues a retraction.

But this hit the wire this morning:

In an April 10 story about Neil Patrick Harris and his TV sitcom, “How I Met Your Mother,” The Associated Press reported that Harris stated he did not think Britney Spears should appear on his show in the future.

The pop star’s March 24 cameo on the show helped it earn its highest rating ever among the 18-to-49-year-old demographic.

Harris said he did not favor what he called “stunt casting” for his show, but he did not say that he opposed a return engagement for Spears.

Dayum.

Do not fuck with Neil Patrick Harris’s respect and admiration for Britney Spears.

Sadly, while reading this and feeling generally great about hotlines I stumbled upon:

“(Doogie) Harris explained that his “highly paid PR firm” had advised him to “lay low for a while.”

Man, I don’t know who your PR firm is but they suck very hard indeed. Lay low for a while?? If you lay any lower you’re going to be getting pancakes for me around 3am at my local IHOP.

Let me break this down for you NPH. No one watches your show, the one with “mother” in the title. Anyone who remembers you knows you as Doogie from a show you did over a decade ago. You were in Starship Troopers for God’s sake! Do I have to slap you upside the head for you to see the light? Your career is not on the path to superstardom, maybe it’s time to shake things up a little, eh?

My point is that as a lame teen actor you are a dime a dozen. No one needs it. Now as a lame teen actor who is also gay… well, you might be able to get a few more years out of that.

When are we opening the EvilBeet PR firm?

After a few days, well…lets be honest…a few years of speculation by the general public, Neil Patrick Harris has come out of the closet. This is a great thing, especially for his boyfriend who probably wasn’t pleased to hear his lover denying his sexuality when they are in a pretty “known” relationship throghout the theatre community.

Neil made his statement about an hour ago to People.Com,

“The public eye has always been kind to me, and until recently I have been able to live a pretty normal life. Now it seems there is speculation and interest in my private life and relationships. So, rather than ignore those who choose to publish their opinions without actually talking to me, I am happy to dispel any rumors or misconceptions and am quite proud to say that I am a very content gay man living my life to the fullest and feel most fortunate to be working with wonderful people in the business I love.”

One evening, a few years ago, I got really excited because I was going to see my favorite, Neil Patrick Harris (aka Dougie Howser, MD) in “Assassins” on Broadway. After the show, because a friend of a friend was in the cast, we waited at the stage door and I got to meet Neil Patrick Harris. Oh dreamy Neil Patrick Harris. Soon after, a friend of mine, who is an established musical theatre actor, was hearing my story and stated, “You know he’s totally gay right?” In the musical theatre community, of which Doogie Howser is a big part, it is well-known that he is gay. I heard the same thing about T.R. Knight before he was forced to come out. Obviously, he won’t come out of the closet, partially because he plays such a woman-hungry character on “How I Met Your Mother.” New York and Hollywood are very different beasts. I have heard, from very credible sources, that he has been sighted trolling various gay bars in New York. Also, a friend of mine said that they saw him and his long time boyfriend, David Burtka, in Williamstown, Mass. and they looked “very” together.

An article recently came out that essentially “outed” Neil stating,

“Nepotism is alive and well in Hollywood. Former Doogie Howser star Neil Patrick Harris, 33, recently got his longtime sweetheart David Burtka, 31, a guest role on his series How I Met Your Mother (airing Wednesday nights on CH). Burtka is an experienced theatre actor (he played opposite Bernadette Peters in Gypsy on Broadway and starred in the touring company of Beauty and the Beast) but also had small parts on episodes of The West Wing and Crossing Jordan.”

Via [Towleroad] his publicist reacted to this article by denying this homosexuality stating, “He’s not of that persuasion.”

Uh huh, cause publicists ALWAYS tell the truth. Why do I always fall for gay men?
