Matilda Ledger, daughter of Heath Ledger and Michelle Williams, went walking with her mommy in Brooklyn yesterday as she celebrated her fourth birthday with breakfast in a coffee shop and a long morning stroll. It’s shocking to see how much Matilda has grown since her father’s passing.

Well, as summer exits, this always happens. People break up left and right, famous or not. The newest star couple to split is Michelle Williams and director Spike Jonze, which is kind of a bummer because I think we were all hoping that Michelle was moving on post-Heath Ledger in a healthy way. However, as she says in the October issue of Vogue, moving on felt anything but healthy, “The timing was impossible. I thought falling in love again was the only thing that was going to save me from the pain. This erroneous idea: It just makes things more complicated.”

What makes this even more sad it that her grieving process has been quite long and started even before Heath passed away. It’s been said that the only reason why the two broke up in the first place was because Michelle couldn’t watch his life-ruining drug use anymore. She goes on to say in the Vogue article “I was holding it together by a string and a paper clip in the fall and winter. I didn’t know if I could keep it all together … You console yourself by saying it’s all a deepening process. But it’s weird. After the first year, the pain is less intense — it’s less immediate. But the magical thinking goes away too. And that’s a whole new reckoning.”

What do you even say about that? I hope that Michelle is able to find some happiness soon.

“It’s so sad. I guess it’s always changing. What else can I say? I just wake up each day in a slightly different place – grief is like a moving river … It’s a strange thing to say, because I’m at heart an optimistic person, but I would say in some ways it just gets worse. It’s just that the more time that passes, the more you miss someone. In some ways it gets worse. That’s what I would say.”

Michelle Williams and Spike Jonze were spotted being all lovey-dovey at Hollywood’s first green club, Ecco Ultra Lounge. I’d never heard of the place, so I checked out their website, and apparently they serve “organic lucid absinthe” which you’re told to “enjoy with caution.” ZOMG. To be 21 and living in LA again. I would enjoy, but not with caution. Hey, it’s organic! I’m helping!

Anyway.

Seven months after the death of Heath Ledger, Michelle Williams has apparently found love again in the arms of director Spike Jonze.

The two were spotted sucking face outside Jonze’s apartment in Manhattan. According to a source: “Michelle kissed Spike with a closed mouth on the corner of his lips. There was definitely a bit of caressing going on. She was clutching his arm. The body language was very romantic.”

Good for Michelle! If this is true, I’m happy to see that she’s moving forward with her life.

In an interview with Elle magazine just days before her former fiance’s death, Michelle Williams spoke about how she struggled through her break-up with Heath Ledger.

“I didn’t know where to go,” she said. “I couldn’t imagine any place in the world that was gonna feel good to me.”

She continues:

“I’m always aware of the whole. I have that feeling inside, like when something really tickles or delights me—it’s not singular. I recognize all the awful things in the world, and in spite of them, I can still laugh. For so long, I felt like a walking open wound everywhere I went. There’s this Joan Didion quote about being afflicted from an early age with a presentiment of loss. Did I come into the world like that? Or was I kind of gifted that?”

“Please respect our need to grieve privately. My heart is broken. I am the mother of the most tender-hearted, high-spirited, beautiful little girl who is the spitting image of her father. All that I can cling to is his presence inside her that reveals itself every day. His family and I watch Matilda as she whispers to trees, hugs animals, and takes steps two at a time, and we know that he is with us still. She will be brought up in the best memories of him.”

It looks like Heath Ledger had secretly battled drug and alcohol abuse for quite some time.

In March 2006 – just weeks after the couple walked the Oscars red carpet and when daughter Matilda was only five months old – Williams drove Ledger to Promises Treatment Center in Malibu, California, the confidant tells Us Weekly.

Ledger refused to check in, instead swaying her with a pledge to clean up.

Even after the couple realized “they were in way over their heads,” according to a source, and split in September 2007, two sources tell Us that Williams demanded Ledger be drug-tested before his visitations with Matilda.

Oh, Heath. You’ll be missed.

Filming of Michelle Williams’s next movie, Blue Valentine, has been put on hold while the actress copes with the death of her fiance Heath Ledger.

“We will hold off until she is ready,” says a source connected with the film. “The production is in the process of sorting it out in respect to her.”

The film co-stars Ryan Gosling, whom Michelle was rumored to be dating.

“We’re hoping she will still come back and do the film and are happy to wait,” the source says. “The film is tailor made for those two so of course we would want to wait. You can’t get much better than them.”

If there’s any good way to tell your 2-year-old “I’m sorry we divorced” it’s giving her the exact same room at Mommy and Daddy’s house.

HEATH Ledger and Michelle Williams are planning to create two identical bedrooms for their 2-year-old daughter, Matilda, in the separate apartments they’ve been living in since their summer bust-up. Williams has been staying in the Brooklyn brownstone the duo used to share, and Ledger has since moved to SoHo. “They are having them designed exactly the same so when she wakes up in Heath’s place she won’t feel displaced,” said a source.

Proving yet again that a baby can’t save a marriage, Heath Ledger and Michelle Williams “quietly and amicably split a few weeks ago.”

According to a source, “The relationship had been rocky recently. They tried very hard to make it work but finally decided to separate. They just grew apart … They have a beautiful daughter and they are both committed to being great parents.”

Their daughter, Mathilda, is 23 months old.
