Meghan McCain has the Twitterverse up in arms over a picture she posted last night of her cleavage.  Actually, I think she was just posing with a book and maybe, possible, sorta, kinda didn’t realize that people would only notice her tits and nothing else.

Last night, after being taken off-guard by the public reaction, McCain alluded to deleting her Twitter account — that is all the rage right now.  Today she Tweeted:  “I do want to apologize to anyone that was offended by my twitpic, I have clearly made a huge mistake and am sorry 2 those that are offended.”

Do we really live in a world where a liberal Republican can’t publish photos of her boobies without everyone having kittens?

I’m sure that I will be slaughtered in the comments for saying anything negative about the patron saint of young Republicans, but Meghan McCain is just bizarre. If you follow her Twitter, watched The View last week or read her column on The Daily Beast, you know that she’s stepped out ever-so-bravely about how she wears hair extensions. Good for her, right? However, the fact that she thinks she’s the first woman in the public eye to point out that she doesn’t just “wake up like that” is obnoxious. That sentiment is about as trite as any these days. We get it. Celebrities have stylists, chefs, hair weaves, glam squads, et c. We get it. McCain is not the first to point this out, but if you listened to anything she’s been saying lately, you would think that she is. Or at least that she’s under the impression she is.

Then last night came this doozy. As the tweet posted above says, McCain is not only supportive of Tila Tequila, but she’s “proud” to “call her [her] friend”. Ugh. 1) That’s another over used sentiment. Why should that be treated like an announcement? She should have just written “Yes, even I, a presidential candidates daughter, am willing to befriend the occasional whore.” 2) Way to hop on the bandwagon and further complicate the life of Shawne Merrimen, a man who was cleared of the accusation that he choked Tila after an insane fight that was instigated by his request for a foursome.

I’ve really tried to like McCain, I really have. I wanted to support her efforts to educate the youth through her blogging and writing. I wanted to appreciate her unique perspective for what it was, but I no longer can. Yes, while she’s just like us, up late singing “Lady Marmalade” instead of doing work, she’s also used her birth-given position of power to catapult her to a place where she has much more important things to do than defend Tila Tequila. There are women out there who have suffered from domestic violence, even in just the last 24 hours, who are more deserving of her attention. Additionally, McCain’s wishy-washy stance on what her place in the world is (”people should respect me” vs. “I’m just a normal girl like you!”) just shows me over and over again that she’s not worth my attention and that she is, in fact, completely bizarre.

Like every time one of the co-hosts leaves or gets knocked up or has surgery on The View, Babs and Co. have to share the table with a series of fill-in guests. Elisabeth Hasselbeck, the resident young conservative blond on the panel has just had her third baby with husband Timothy Hasselbeck and who better to bring in to replace her than another young conservative blond! It has just been announced that when The View returns on September 9th for their fall season, they will be welcoming Meghan McCain to the table as the first guest host.

“I am not only turned off by people who voted for Barack Obama, but I am also turned off by people that voted for my dad—or more so, obsessive supporters of my dad. Recently, over dinner, a guy started explaining his reasons for supporting President Obama during the election (I didn’t ask, I think the poor guy felt guilty) and I immediately found any attraction I had previously had dissipate. But same thing happens if a guy starts talking about all the reasons why my father should be president. I have the ultimate Catch-22 in post-election dating. So where does that leave me, and who exactly am I attracted to? Let’s just say I’m spending a lot of time writing and even more time with my girlfriends.”

“The first political convention I ever attended was when my mom was pregnant with me in 1984 and the Republican Party nominated Ronald Reagan for a second term as President. I have been on political stages and in campaigns since before I could walk or talk. If there is one thing I have learned, it is that it is difficult to establish your identity and independence as the son or daughter of a politician. When I was 14 years old, a reporter questioned my father about me having a hypothetical abortion, had I been pregnant at 14. This reporter’s question single-handedly changed my life. This story comes up in almost every profile written about me and in almost every interview. It’s a rough go being the son or daughter of a politician. I have not known Bristol Palin very long, but there is a certain kinship I feel to her as I do other political daughters such as Chelsea Clinton, Jenna and Barbara Bush and Mary Cheney. You can’t fully understand it unless you have lived it. So I just wanted to let it be known that I support Bristol and the entire Palin family.”
