Fun with YouTube: Katy Perry, “Waking Up in Vegas”
Friday, August 29th, 2008So Katy Perry’s pretty much been the princess of this summer’s music scene with her ginormous hit, “I Kissed a Girl.” I finally got around to listening to her entire album on Rhapsody, and came across this song, and I was like, “Dude, how do I know this awesome song?”
And then it hit me: it was my MySpace song like three years ago. I have no idea where or how I came across it, but I’d instantly fallen in love. Has this song been around for that long? Where would I have heard it? Do I need to start telling people that I was into Katy Perry before anyone else? Am I that cool?
Katy Perry’s Parents Are Ashamed of Her
Saturday, August 16th, 2008I posted awhile back about how Katy Perry’s parents are both Christian preachers, and how she originally sang Christian music. I guess I just assumed her parents understood that she was using a persona to pursue a career, but I assumed wrong. They’re steaming mad. Says her mother, Mary Hudson, about her hit song, “I Kissed a Girl:”
I hate the song. It clearly promotes homosexuality and its message is shameful and disgusting. Katy knows how I feel. We are a very outspoken family and she knows how disappointed her father and I are. I can’t even listen to that song. The first time I heard it I was in total shock. When it comes on the radio I bow my head and pray … Katy is our daughter and we love her but we strongly disagree with how she is conducting herself at the moment. We cannot cut her out of our lives as she is our child but she knows we disagree strongly with what she is doing and the message she is promoting regarding homosexuality which the Bible clearly states is a sin. But the Bible also promotes understanding and forgiveness, which I keep reminding myself. Katy is not a homosexual but I fear she has been led astray by the Hollywood crowd. I pray all the time that God will work through her and help her find salvation.
Ugh. The God I believe in is already working through Katy by helping to make girls kissing girls just a little less taboo. But everyone’s entitled to his or her own God, and I will pray for Mary Hudson, and hope that she doesn’t have to live out the rest of her life harboring such hatred for her fellow human beings based on something as trivial as their sexual preferences. It must be a frustrating and spiritually exhausting way to exist. I’m sorry you have to go through life like that, Mary Hudson.
As for Katy’s opinion on her parents?
“I stopped trying to change them at 21,” she says.
Amen, sister.
Thanks Laura!
Katy Perry Used to Do Christian Music
Tuesday, June 24th, 2008Above find the 2001 Christian track “Faith Won’t Fail,” sung by a 16-year-old named Katy Hudson.
Today, you know this woman as Katy Perry, the lingerie-sporting chanteuse behind such tracks as “Ur So Gay,” “I Kissed a Girl” and a fantastic cover of “Use Your Love.”
Yes, as a teenager, Katy was a Christian recording artist. In fact, her parents are both conservative preachers.
She must have told them her full song titles were “Ur So Gay (Which Is Why You’re Going to Hell),” “I Kissed a Girl (It Was a Painting of Mother Mary)” and “Use Your Love (Of Jesus)”.
Katy Perry Actually Kissed a Girl
Wednesday, June 18th, 2008The “I Kissed a Girl” singer was partying at Villa in Los Angeles Saturday when the deejay spotted her and blasted the hit for the crowd. Perry, in a funky unitard, stood up on the banquette, leaned down and planted a lingering kiss on the mouth of a girlfriend in front of everyone.
So, so, so cliche. For her sake, I hope she was wasted when this happened.
And who the hell wears a “funky unitard” these days?
