The American Idol also-ran is back with a new album called Unbroken, due out in January, and here’s the video for the first single, “Had It All.” I have to admit, I’ve always been a Kat McPhee fan, and this is no exception. I like this single, and I absolutely love her voice. I also actually kind of like the video — even the short, platinum, last-decade haircut. It looks like she went through one of the Tyra Banks ANTM makeovers, but it works somehow. Your thoughts?

I don’t know if I’d call American Idolloser Katharine McPhee a celebrity, but I guess she still garners some level of media attention.  And like all washed-up has-beens, she’s doing infomercials.  McPhee plugs a great anti-pap device.

I was just sitting in the shower the other day thinking about celebrities, because that’s what I do in the shower, and I shower like five times a day, which is probably why I have so many thoughts about celebrities. Anyway, my shower thought was “Does Katharine McPhee have a sustainable career?” I couldn’t come up with a clear answer, but obviously someone still cares about her. Katharine was swarmed by paps the other day — and she wisely kept mum as they drilled her with questions about same-sex marriage — and was saved by what I think is a homeless woman, who grabbed her by the arm and pushed her through a door and then cussed out the paps. Sweet. I want one of these ladies to take everywhere with me. And when someone annoys me I’ll just be like, “Ahem. I think my homeless lady has something she wants to say to you.”

I mean, it just blows my mind how many exceptionally talented people are wandering around Hollywood waiting tables while videos and songs like this are getting produced by major studios. It looks like a freakin’ student film. And by “student” I mean “middle-schooler.” This is so, so awful.

I lol’d a couple of times at this brief interview that Kat McPhee did with Newsweek.

She was supposed to be talking about her new film, House Bunny, but instead the interviewer was totally unprepared and off-topic, and Kat just decided to let him look like the dumbass that he is. Here’s how most of the interview went:

You just got married and had Kellie Pickler as a bridesmaid. Why didn’t you ask Sanjaya?
Because Sanjaya wasn’t on my season. And I wasn’t very good friends with him.

Did you invite Simon and Paula?
No, I’m not that close with them. It’s not like in a bad way, but I don’t hang out with them on the weekends.

Do you get tired of people bringing up the 19-year age difference between you and your husband?
You know, not that many people bring it up.

Had you always been attracted to older men?
No. He’s the first and last old man that I’ll be attracted to.

I didn’t call him old—just older.
That’s a good way to put it.

Heh.

Is anyone else a little embarrassed to admit they might see House Bunny? Between that and Beverly Hills Chihuahua, I’m just going to have to go out and buy a movie-going disguise.

The 23-year-old American Idol also-ran tied the knot with her 42-year-old boyfriend, Nick Cokas, in Beverly Hills on Saturday.

“(Nick) is the love of my life,” she said. “This is a once in a lifetime occasion and everything is just perfect.”

McPhee wore a strapless ivory Manuel Mota gown and Neil Lane jewels (diamond and platinum chandelier earrings and diamond and platinum bracelets), while Cokas wore an Armani tuxedo. Fellow season five Idol contestants Kellie Pickler and Mandisa were among the 305 guests on hand for the nuptials.

You gotta hand it to this girl — she’s been with this dude since before she got famous. Is it true love? Or is she just too young to know better?

Katharine McPhee, 23, is reportedly engaged to her boyfriend of a year, 42-year-old actor Nick Cokas.

Man, this guy sure hit the fucking jackpot.

“Katharine is bubbling over with excitement for her upcoming wedding,” a source says. “She is all smiles when she talks about the planning. It sounds like everything is going very smoothly.”

The two met in 2005 when they performed in a Los Angeles theater production of The Ghost and Mrs. Muir. Their relationship began as a friendship.

“He took me up to my San Francisco (Idol) audition,” McPhee said. That’s when they started fucking. “We totally fell in love,” she said.

Dayum.

There ya go, old guys. You wanna date a 21-year-old? Drive her to an American Idol audition.

Or, you know, just be James Woods.

Nope, it’s just a prosthetic she’s wearing for the character she plays in her new film, House Bunny, which is currently filming in LA. Since when is Kat McPhee an actress?

Also, I need to find out where I can get one of these things. I totally want it for the next time I go home to visit my parents.

I say “why not?” Although I am wary of the “indie” tag, because that means I may be filming it with the extra $20 I got from selling a crack rock today, I see no reason to automatically disqualify McPhee from the ranks of J-Hudness.

Conversely, in the industry, it’s pretty much the prevailing opinion that J-Hud will never be heard from again on the acting front. Her role in Dreamgirls was too perfect for her and featured tons of singing; clearly this is her strength. There aren’t enough musicals to sustain her and now she’s put herself in the singing corner. However, it looks as though Kat won’t be making that mistake:

McPhee will make her feature film debut as the star of indie dark romantic comedy The Last Caller. The coming-of-age story is about a self-obsessed woman (McPhee) who searches for love, hope, and meaning during random events with other urban seekers. The role does not involve singing.

So, while McPhee won’t be winning an Oscar for this she may be setting herself up for future success. Hopefully that will help her get over that whole American Idol finale snub.

Despite selling more albums than Taylor Hicks, Katharine McPhee was excluded from the celeb-studded Idol finale. While other folks from her season — Elliot Yamin, Taylor Hicks, Chris Daughtry and BFF Kellie Pickler — were asked to perform on the finale, Katharine was not.

“Katharine called them herself, trying to get on the [finale],” says a source. “She’s really hurt.”

I can’t imagine why Kat was excluded. Her album’s debuted at #2 on the charts. She’s signed with 19 Entertainment. She was on People’s 50 Most Beautiful list. Why on earth wouldn’t they want her. Thoughts?
