This is one of those times I want to give the finger the the general gossip blogosphere.

Jim Carrey is deliberately packing on the pounds to play Curly in the The Three Stooges, which begins filming later this year. He’s attempting to go from his usual weight of 170lbs all the way up to 300 lbs or more- which sounds absolutely insane, and can’t be good for his health.

But all gossip websites get out of this is “OMG. Jim Carrey is like, sooooo fat now.”

First of all, he hasn’t even gained that much weight yet. While he’s certainly chunkier in the current photo on the left, he’s nowhere near the bloated bag of pus some sites would have you think he’s turned into.

Secondly, he’s putting his health on the line for the sake of a role. While that’s questionable in terms of personal safety and well-being, it’s admirable in terms of dedication to his craft.

If you want to talk about something, talk about the questionable practice of actors and actresses hurriedly putting on tons of weight to play some roles and dropping down to anorexic levels for others. Don’t just focus on the fact that this famous person has gotten “like, soooo fat.’

It doesn’t even seem possible that Jim Carrey is old enough to be a grandfather, but it’s the next role he’s slated for.

Carrey confirmed to E! News that his only child, 21-year-old Jane is expecting her first child with her longtime boyfriend, Nitro.  He’s in music — he fronts the band Blood Money — and his real name is Alex Santana, but can you just imagine the joy of learning that your daughter is knocked up by a dude who answers to Nitro?  Ah, young love.

Hey, does this make Jenny McCarthy a grandmother?  Because my mood will improve considerably if that’s the case.

When their careers keep them apart, Jenny “Wheat-Free” McCarthy and Jim Carrey keep their relationship hot by having Jim do Internet strip teases for Jenny.

Jenny tells OK! magazine:

“I haven’t done any dancing, but I make him do that! It’s nice! With the iChat, we’re always afraid that there’s a third party watching! We’re a little bit careful, but it’s a great way to have that face-to-face connection! I go online and check him out. I tell him his outfit looks cute!”

It’s funny; I didn’t even realize you could do video chat on iChat until a few days ago when a friend of mine send me a video chat request. I was, per usual, sitting on my couch butt-naked, blogging, and I couldn’t deny the request fast enough. I was soooo worried I would accidentally accept it and my naked upper body would show up on her computer screen in all its glory. She texted me next me the next morning like “Are you mad at me???” and I was like, “No, I was naked!!!”

Anyway, seems to work well for Jenny and Jim.

Their love is no laughing matter.

Jenny McCarthy and Jim Carrey looked beautiful and in love at the premiere of Yes Man in LA last night.

I give Jenny McCarthy a lot of shit around here, but the truth is that I respect her for being so focused on raising awareness about autism and always putting her child’s needs first. She’s one of those celebrities who didn’t hold a press conference to talk about how she was going to focus on her family and humanitarian efforts and then proceed to focus on making movies and getting the paparazzi to take pictures of her with her kid. She just quietly transitioned from ditzy blonde bombshell to full-time mother and advocate for her child, and that shit wins a lot of points in my book. Also, she looks freakin’ amazing here. Rock on, Jenny.

Jim Carrey did a very revealing interview with Larry King this week, where he opened up much more than usual, and talked about everything from depression and Jenny McCarthy to The Fockers. Here are some highlights:

King: So have you turned down anything you regretted?

Carrey: I never regret. … [But] you know, “Meet the Parents” was something that I was developing.

King: You turned that down?

Carrey: Yes. I actually created the Fockers in a creative meeting. Yes. But, it was perfect that Ben Stiller did it. When I saw it, I went, “That’s the way it’s supposed to be done.”

King: Ever want to do Broadway?

Carrey: Sure, sure. I’ll do that.

King: Do a play?

Carrey: I would love to do it. I hope I could do it.

King: How did you and [girlfriend Jenny McCarthy] — how did that happen?

Carrey: It’s funny how that happens when you’re in a place that’s really wonderful. I had already gotten to a place in my life where I felt at peace, and I was invited to David Spade’s birthday party. And I went out there that night and I was just in a zone. And I just felt wonderful. It was one of those times when you don’t have to be anywhere but where you are.

King: And you had no girlfriend?

Carrey: I had no girlfriend at the time. I mean, I was just knocking them off one after another. It was just sick. But — so I went to the party. And I just stood there in the middle of the room and kind of had that feeling like I was everything I felt. And she looked at me, and she said, “You just looked so peaceful that I had to come and talk to you.”

King: What did you think when you saw her?

Carrey: I went — well, I mean, I’d seen her a bunch of times, never in person. But I just thought — well, she’s nothing like the persona, like the “Singled Out” person that I met — or that I knew, that I had seen. Because I don’t think I wanted to go out with that person. You know? She was brilliant, but that wasn’t the choice I would make. She was completely different than that. She was really sweet.

King: And that’s magic when it hits?

Carrey: Yes. Beautiful.

King: You can’t predict it?

Carrey: No. You’re just lucky while it’s there, you know. That’s all, just lucky.

King: Are you going to marry Jenny?

Carrey: No. I am married to Jenny. I love Jenny very much, and we have a great relationship. And we’ve both been married a couple times. … I like it the way it is, and I think she likes it the way it is. You know? And that’s all we need. I really don’t, at this point of my life, feel like I need to have the approval of someone in the collar or a judge to tell us that our relationship is sacred.

King: Didn’t you suffer from depression?

Carrey: Yes.

King: How did you get through that to this?

Carrey: Well, that’s another thing. You know at the risk of like opening up the whole Tom Cruise Prozac argument, you know, I don’t disagree in many ways. I think Prozac and things like that are very valuable to people for short periods of time. But I believe if you’re on them for an extended period of time, you never get to the problem. You never get to see what the problem is, because everything is just kind of OK. And so, you don’t deal. And people deal when they get desperate.

King: So how did you do it?

Carrey: I take supplements. … It’s a wonderful thing. It’s amazing. I’m going to talk a lot about it in the near future.

There’s a lot to digest here.

What do we think of Carrey’s views on anti-depressants? Can you effectively address the issues underlying depression while being treated for it chemically? And what the fuck does he mean by “supplements”? Is this like Jenny treating autism with a wheat-free diet?

And what of Meet the Parents? Would it have been better with Jim Carrey? Or was it meant for Ben Stiller?

And what do we think Ben thinks of Jim being all like, “Dude, your hit? It was my idea.”

It’s been a long time since Ace Ventura, and most of what we see of Jim Carrey these days is his support of Jenny McCarthy as she spearheads the fight against autism and unsafe childhood vaccinations, but he’s clearly the same guy he always was.

Jim put on Jenny’s bikini for a paparazzi-friendly stroll in Malibu this week.

I love Jenny’s outfit here — it’s a cool twist on the nautical theme we’ve seen all over this season (phone call last week from friend: “Have you been to Forever 21 lately? It’s all sailor clothes! I just want a fucking tank top!”). And Jane has really grown up to be a beautiful young woman.

Check out Jim with his 20-year-old daughter, Jane. She’s quite the cutie. And I’ve never seen her with Paris Hilton, so she’s alright in my book.

Jim, ever the the dutiful boyfriend, showed up to support girlfriend Jenny McCarthy, who hosted a cocktail party for the UCLA Early Childhood Development Partial Hospitalization Program.

I don’t know what that means, but I do know two things that might shed some light on it:

1) Jenny McCarthy has a son with autism

In college, my friends and I used to play the Movie Title Game. One person comes up with a ridiculous scenario and/or ridiculous pairings of actors, and the other contestants determine the appropriately hilarious title for said film. Well, those two crazy kids actually went and got themselves married. This Saturday, Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes were joined in holy matrimony at Odescalchi Castle outside of Rome. There were over 150 guests in attendance, including Victoria Beckham, Brooke Shields, Jennifer Lopez and Marc Anthony, Will Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith, and Jenny McCarthy and Jim Carrey.

Katie’s father escorted her down the aisle, and the ceremony was performed at sunset by a Scientology minister (read about traditional Scientology wedding vows here). The wedding party included Cruise’s children, Isabella and Connor, and the best man was Cruise’s best friend, David Miscavige, who also happens to be the head of the Church of Scientology. Katie’s sister, Nancy Blaylock, was her matron of honor. The wedding singer was Matt Lauer. Nah, I’m kidding, it was Andrea Bocelli. I hear there was a light drizzle at the start of the ceremony, but then things cleared up for the couple.

Since I honestly don’t understand enough of these words to paraphrase the description of what Katie wore, I am going to jack it, word for tedious word, from Us Weekly: “Katie wore a fitted Armani off-the-shoulder bridal gown with a train in ivory silk cadis adorned in Valenciennes lace and Swarovski beaded crystal embroidery, featuring a delicate crinoline frill at the shoulders and a silk soleil border around the hem. Evan Almighty could cost as much as $250 million U.S. dollars to make. That’s million with an M. As in one quarter of a Billion dollars.

You may be scratching your head as to what exactly Evan Almighty is. It’s the sequel to Bruce Almighty, the one where Morgan Freeman was God and Jim Carrey put a definitive end to his comedy film career. The movie was okay, and it was cool because Jennifer Aniston played a tree. Oh, she didn’t? My bad.

But back to the budget, according to the article the film has run over on costs because:

a) it’s a “spectacle fantasy and also a comedy.”

b) the “studio’s desire to release the film during the holiday season in December, thereby cutting preparation time and forcing the crew to shoot scenes in Virginia during a rainy period.”

c) “Producers also encountered delays having to film hundreds of animals.”

Okay, now I get it. They had to deal with pricey rain, it’s a fantasy, and they had animals. It’s like Singles mixed with Jumanji so you can see why it would cost bank and a half. I won’t get into why they’ve decided special effects are relevant to a comedy because I know what really happened to the money and that’s a much more compelling story.
