Isaac Hayes Died of a Stroke

Tuesday, August 12th, 2008

The Sheriff’s Department announced on Tuesday that soul singer Isaac Hayes, who passed away on Sunday, probably died of a stroke.

Hayes had recently finished work on the upcoming movie Soul Men, in which he played himself. The movie also stars Samuel Jackson and Bernie Mac, who died on Saturday.

If I were Samuel Jackson, I’d be taking real good care of myself right now.

R.I.P. Isaac Hayes

These things come in threes, you guys, and so here’s the second.

Isaac Hayes — who my generation perhaps knows best as the voice of Chef on South Park, but whom others may know as a legend of soul music and a Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee — has passed away at the age of 65.

His wife found him unconscious near a treadmill in their home. The treadmill was still running. Hayes was rushed to the hospital and pronounced dead shortly after 2 pm. The cause of death has not been released, but foul play is not suspected.

Hayes stirred up controversy recently, when he left the cast of South Park after they persisted in mocking his religion, Scientology.

RIP, buddy.
