Ryan O’Neal, in an interview with People, spoke of Farrah Fawcett, her health and their twenty-seven year relationship.

O’Neal who is now Farrah’s caretaker lamented, “It’s a love story. I just don’t know how to play this one. I won’t know this world without her.  Cancer is an insidious enemy.”  You can tell how connected these two are, yet I found this quote so troubling:  “A week ago Farrah said to me, ‘Am I going to make it?’ I said, ‘Yes, you’ll make it. And if you don’t, I’ll go with you.’”

After a couple years of new technology cancer treatments that aren’t available in the U.S. yet, the verdict was in:  her cancer was back and had spread to other body parts including her liver.  Ryan said, “She stays in bed now. The doctors see that she is comfortable. Farrah is on IVs, but some of that is for nourishment. The treatment has pretty much ended.”

Through all this, their son Redmond has been in jail due to a parole violation.  However, Farrah is unaware of her son’s troubles and Ryan thinks that’s for the best.  “Farrah doesn’t know Redmond’s in trouble.  And Redmond is terrified for his mother. ‘I don’t want to be in jail and have some guard tell me she is gone,’ he said to me. I told him, ‘She’s rebounding.’ I lied to him. I lie to her. It’s the best thing.”

Through Fawcett’s cancer struggle, she has videotaped the highs and lows, good news received and bad news dealt.  It has all been turned into a documentary put together with the help of her best friend Alana Stewart.  Farrah’s Story will air on NBC May 15th.

Farrah Fawcett

Oh, this is such sad news!!!

Redmond O’Neal was allowed to leave jail this weekend — where he’s being held on drug charges — to visit his mother, Farrah Fawcett, who is battling cancer. Redmond had a police escort, but, still. Jails aren’t typically in the habit of letting people out to make just any housecall. Farrah must be very ill.

Our thoughts are with you, Farrah!!!

Farrah Fawcett Hospitalized

Farrah Fawcett

Farrah Fawcett has been hospitalized and is in critical but stable condition in an L.A. area hospital. The former Angel has been battling anal cancer since 2006 and recently returned from Germany where she was undergoing an experimental stem cell treatment. She seems to be in pretty bad shape, and has been unconscious for days. Family are gathering at her bedside, including her long-time significant other, Ryan O’Neal, and son Redmond.

I love it. Farrah Fawcett gets cured of cancer, so we get to care about Ryan O’Neal for all of five minutes, during which he manages to get arrested in a physical altercation with his son, who has managed to knock up a girl who is literally half his age. I don’t know how Bam Margera has stayed out of prison this long, but his uncle wasn’t so lucky. Because, see, Bam’s never been so good with, like, knowing where to draw the line, but he’s at least peripherally aware that it exists somewhere between a 12-year-old girl and her breast. [Ninja Dude]

Farrah Fawcett Kicks Cancer in the Anus

Friday, February 2nd, 2007

Wow, I get to write two stories with good news in one day! First, Patrick Dempsey’s wife gives birth to two healthy twin boys, and now the news that Charlie’s Angel Farrah Fawcett received a clean bill of health from UCLA Med after battling anal cancer for the past four months. (My happiness is tempered by the fact that I did have to write something about Paris Hilton earlier today, but I’ll get over it.)

Farrah, who just turned 60, was told by her doctors that her “prognosis is excellent.” Says Fawcett:

I have been on a journey for the past four months and during this time received a tremendously aggressive treatment which doctors initially warned me would be the most difficult fight of my life. I was told they needed me to ‘bite the bullet’ and that would require great courage and unfailing determination. In the face of excruciating pain and uncertainty, I never lost hope and it never occurred to me to stop fighting—not ever.

I hope that my news might offer some level of inspiration to others who unfortunately must continue to fight the disease. So to those who are still struggling toward their own victory, stay determined, ‘fight the fight’ and I will keep you and your families in my thoughts and prayers.
