Courteney Cox has been doing a bang-up job on her show Cougar Town from what I’ve heard, but today the news was released that the former Friends star needs to take a break from filming to tend to some private business.

A rep from ABC said today, “We can confirm production on Cougar Town has been temporarily shut down in order for Courteney to deal with a private family matter.”

While I do hope everything is alright with the Cox-Arquette clan, I will be really pissed if this “private family matter” turns out to be that David’s run out of plaid pants to embarrass himself in. Here’s hoping that the family, especially their daughter CoCo, are alright.

Ahhhhhhhhhh ha ha ha ha! This news completely made my night. As we all know, an entire generation of 20-somethings was defined by Phoebe Buffay and “Smelly Cat.” It’s pretty much the greatest song ever. It conveys anger, sympathy, compassion, love, and malodorousness with such grace and eloquence. I’m frankly surprised that we’ve never seen Britney Spears or Pearl Jam cover it. (Seriously, Pearl Jam, get on that.)

So Lisa Kudrow was with Courteney Cox-Arquette at a fundraiser for Feeding America, the nation’s largest domestic hunger-relief charity, at Club Nokia in Los Angeles Tuesday night. The two of them were doing a brief Q&A session to kill time before Sheryl Crow went on to perform:

“Play ‘Smelly Cat!’ ” an audience member called out, after Kudrow and Cox Arquette were pressed into a question-and-answer session while Crow and her bandmates set up backstage.

Kudrow looked to her friend for help, but Cox Arquette gleefully threw her pal under the Benefit bus, calling out to the stagehands: “Get her a guitar, people!”

After being fitted with an acoustic guitar, the momentarily bewildered actress warily asked, “Is this a set up?” before summoning her inner Phoebe and serenading the audience with her ballad about an odiferous feline.

It looks like Deputy Riley and Gale Weathers are reuniting at least one more time for the fourth installation in the Scream franchise.  Screenwriter Kevin Williamson is working on the script now and according to David Arquette, “hopefully Wes Craven is going to direct.”  Williamson has claimed that Neve Campbell has declined the chance to revive her role — because she’s busy with somany other projects — but Arquette said “I hope Neve does it. I really hope so.”

Really, much more surprising than the announcement of this newest sequel is the fact that I think this picture depicts the most normal ensemble I’ve ever seen David Arquette wear.  Ever.

I’m not quite done being devastated that Dirt was canceled (that show was genius, people!!! GENIUS!!!), but at least Courteney Cox is moving on — she’s signed on to do a pilot of a show called Cougar Town. Rowr.

ABC has ordered a comedy pilot in which the former “Friends” star will play an attractive newly single 40-year-old mom with a 17-year-old son. It comes from “Scrubs” creator Bill Lawrence.

“Forty-year-old women on TV are so beautiful and perfect and wrinkle-free,” said Lawrence, who first worked with Cox when he was a writer on “Friends.” “People don’t do the reality of it, and there is a real comedy area about a woman who is talking about Botox, about having sex with the lights on and how her body is changing.”

This is the kind of show that could either be unbelievably awesome or totally tragic. I like Courteney a lot, and I hope it does well.

They’re not breaking up, people. They’re not getting a divorce. I think these two are in it to win it, and they are so adorable together.

Despite the persistent rumors that their marriage is in trouble, Courteney Cox and David Arquette look happy as ever as they leave an event at Kitson in WeHo last night. I don’t know why the tabloids keep trying to break these two up. I think they’re the real thing.

On Sunday, all the celebrities who weren’t at the Disney event for the Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS Foundation dragged their asses (and the diapered asses of their small children) all the way down to Anaheim for the opening of the Finding Nemo ride.

I’m primarily interested in these images because, once again, Denise Richards insisted on trotting her obviously anti-camera children in front of photogs again. This time she only brought Sam, leaving Lola at home in peace, I suppose. These children always look unhappy in photos. Why do you insist on doing this to them, Denise?

In stark contrast, Brooke Shields’ little daughters, Rowan and Grier, are absolutely adorable. Mariska Hargitay was there with her son August. Kobe Bryant brought his whole family. Courteney Cox and Lisa Kudrow were there for reasons that baffle me. (Actually, Courteney was probably there because David Arquette and his sister Patricia, who brought her daughter and goddaughter, were.) Leah Remini, Scientologist extraordinaire, brought her husband Angelo Pagan and her daughter, Sofia Bella (Pagan’s three children from his previous marriage clearly lost their invites in the mail). Melissa Joan Hart brought her cutie son Mason. And no event would be complete without the darling Sprouse Brothers, still pretending to be 15 years old.

Pics from the premiere of The Tripper in Hollywood on Wednesday night. Doesn’t it look like Courteney is trying to escape? Jen’s basically clinging to her. Remember when Jennifer was the Friends star with a thriving post-Friends career? Oh, how the tables have turned.

Despite this week’s rumors that her marriage to David Arquette is on the rocks, Courteney Cox sure does look adorable (although maybe not super happy) with her little daughter Coco in WeHo this week. We almost never get to see pictures of this kid — what a cutie!!
