Cate Blanchett

“I enjoy vacuuming. It’s a very satisfying noise when you hear all that grit sucked up from the floor and into the machine.”

– Cate Blanchett to People Magazine on her idea of a fun time.

You know, at first I was going to make fun of her and be all “Yeah, I’m sure you LOVE vacuuming, Cate. I’m sure that it’s really satisfying for you to ‘get down on the level of the people’ and ‘do normal things’.” I was going to be really flippant about it because my apartment is messy and I’m frustrated I can’t afford a cleaning service or figure out how to make things as nice as my mom or some other person with actual domestic skills would make them, but then I realized: I love that sound, too! Frankly, it’s the only reason worth cleaning!

I’ve never told anyone this and I sure hope my mom doesn’t read here, but this one time when I was a kid it was my job to vacuum the living room when no one was home and I was so satisfied by the sound of the little dirt particles getting sucked up that I dumped a box of love beads on the floor just so I could hear the sound of tiny little hard things being sucked up by a vacuum. I really could have broken the vacuum and that would have been a huge problem. I would have been grounded for life if I broke the vacuum, but I risked it because I wanted to hear that sound so badly.

So, Cate. Cate, Cate, Cate. I getcha, girl.

Love It or Hate It?

Who needs designers and stylists?  The ever-resourceful Cate Blanchett just grabbed an afghan off the back of her couch, wrapped up in it and was ready for her appearance at the Screen Worlds exhibition in Melbourne, Australia.  See?  This is the type of frock I’d like to get Taylor Momsen into!

So, love it or hate it?  Actually, I just want to know if there is any one person willing to claim that they love this thing.

Looks Like There Will Be Another Unemployed Stage Actor Looking For Work

Crazy and unplanned things happen all the time on live stage productions.  Yesterday was no different as an actor lifted a stage prop — I’m hearing it was a radio — and accidentally whacked Cate Blanchett in the back of the head with it.  The Academy award-winning actress fell to the floor and started bleeding from the back of her head.  Needless to say, the show was promptly cancelled.  It is set to resume again on Thursday.

The mayhem all unfolded at the Sydney Theater Company — a company she runs with her playwright husband Andrew Upton — where the actors are doing a production of Streetcar Named Desire.  The dude who injured her must be sweating it; inflicting a serious head injury upon the boss/boss’s wife rarely turns out well.

Feel better soon, Cate!  Oh, and to the prop-throwing guy … tough break, man.

How gorgeous does Cate look in the pages of this month’s Vanity Fair?

She was photographed for the mag by Annie Leibovitz.

And she’s wearing more clothes than Miley Cyrus was!

Cate Blanchett Should Totally Be A Marriage Counselor

Sunday, November 23rd, 2008

Someone once said to me, and I think it’s quite true, that if your bodies actually fit together when you’re sleeping in bed — I’m not going to get into too much detail — you’re in good stead.

When you can spoon with someone, then you’re OK. Because you might not vote the same way, you might not have the same politics, but sometimes that works for people.

WTF?  Cate Blanchett shared this little gem of knowledge on Oprah.  You mean the success of a relationship is all based on spine curvature?  Why did she wait so long to share this?  If only I had known…I could have saved so much in attorney fees.  Thanks for nothing Cate.

Cate Blanchett and Husband Andrew Upton, Pictures, Photos

Congrats to Cate Blanchett, who gave birth to her third son with husband Andrew Upton on Sunday. Little Ignatius Martin was born in a Sydney hospital. Mother and baby are doing well.

I hope the kids get their mom’s hair, that’s for sure.

Andrew Upton and Pregnant Cate Blanchett at Premiere of The Year of Magical Thinking in Sydney, Australia, Pictures, Photos

A very pregnant Cate Blanchett shows off her curves at the Sydney premiere of The Year of Magical Thinking.

I read this book, by Joan Didion, at a difficult time in my life, and I just adored it. I saw this photo and I was like “My God! I had no idea they were making it into a movie!”

But it’s actually a play.

I am such a twenty-something.

Anyway, I love that Cate’s just rocking the preggers look.
