“There was this really earnest college student with his backpack on who wanted to do his first film, and then Madonna wanted to produce it.  I was like, ‘Madonna? I don’t think this is her film. I remember this one producer told me that he had found Precious—and it was going to be Brandy. Excuse me? I literally almost hung up on him.”

Sapphire, the author of Precious, in an Entertainment Weekly interview.  Apparently, I’m not the only one who wants to disconnect with people who think Brandy has acting talent or the ability to properly affix false eyelashes.

TMZ reports that Brandy has paid out a settlement to the two children of Awatef Aboudihaj, the woman who died when the singer plowed into the back of her car in 2006.  They will each receive $300,000 a piece, however the victim’s husband, Marouane Hdidou, has rejected the $600,000 portion of the offer that was made to compensate him for his loss. 

I wish the Hdidou realized that $600,000 won’t bring back his wife but neither will $6M.  May he find peace, accept an offer and a way to move forward.

A man hurt in a 2006 multicar pileup, which involved Brandy and left one person dead, is suing both the songbird and the deceased driver for personal injury and negligence.

Per the complaint, filed Dec. 8 in Los Angeles Superior Court and a copy of which was obtained by E! News, plaintiff Donald Lite alleges he sustained “serious and permanent injuries” as a result of excessive speed on the part of Brandy and Awatef Aboudihaj and their failure to properly maintain a safe distance from each other.

The fatal chain reaction occurred Dec. 30, 2006, at about 10:30 a.m. on the 405 Freeway, when the 28-year-old R&B singer’s 2007 Land Rover collided with a vehicle driven by the 38-year-old Aboudihaj, a wife and mother of two. She in turn smashed into a 1989 Toyota Tercel driven by the 82-year-old Lite, while a fourth car broadsided Aboudihaj, who died the following day as the result of major blunt force trauma.

Last year, Los Angeles prosecutors opted not to bring a criminal case against Brandy, whose full name is Brandy Norwood, after finding insufficient evidence that she was at fault.

But that’s not stopping Lite from pressing the matter in civil court.

According to the suit, the former Moesha star “failed to keep a proper lookout” and stay far enough away from Aboudihaj to enable her to stop in time to avoid a collision.

“As a direct and proximate result of the negligence, carelessness and recklessness—the plaintiff suffered serious and permanent injuries all of which have caused, and continue to cause pain, suffering and nervousness,” read court documents.

Lite’s seeking unspecified damages for pain and suffering as well as the cost of medical care and loss of wages, among other claims.

I’m sorry, but someone should counter-sue this moron for careless and reckless abuse of the legal system.

Meanwhile, the Korean immigrant who lost his wife and two children when a U.S. fighter jet crashed into his house during a practice run is asking the country to pray for the surviving pilot. Apparently maturity isn’t necessarily a factor of age.

After being off the music scene for four years — during which she was involved in a fatal car collision — Brandy is prepared to make a comeback.

“What I experienced in the past couple of years was tough,” she said, “but I had to face it and find the strength to move forward. Connecting back with music has definitely helped me through everything. Once I got back in the studio, the butterflies went away.”

Personally, I couldn’t care less about Brandy. I always found her annoying and obnoxious, but Lord knows she’s had some time to do some growing up. The debut single isn’t half bad, but I’m not really obsessing on it or anything.

Brandy Norwood’s mother/manager is suing Kim Kardashian and her siblings, accusing them of running up more than $120,000 in credit card charges without permission while Kim was styling Brandy.

She alleges Kim was authorized to make a single purchase on the family’s AmEx card, but later ran up a ton of unauthorized charges, and gave the card to her siblings, who also ran up a ton of unauthorized charges. Kim claims she and her family were authorized to make all the charges. “We have her signature on all items,” Kardashian says.

You’ll recall that Kim also starred in a recent sex tape with another Norwood: Brandy’s brother Ray-J, who she later dumped for footballer Reggie Bush. Seems like there’s still some bad blood between the families.

Brandy won’t be charged in that little fatal crash on the 405 last year.

“After conducting a thorough investigation, which included consulting with some of the top accident reconstruction experts in the country, city prosecutors concluded that there was insufficient evidence from which a jury could find Ms. Norwood guilty of such a charge beyond a reasonable doubt,” Los Angeles City Attorney’s spokesman Frank Mateljan said.

If convicted, Brandy could have faced up to a year in jail.

However, the relatives of Awatef Aboudihaj, the woman who was killed in the crash, have filed a $50 million wrongful death lawsuit against Brandy. That issue has yet to be resolved.

Brandy — who’s certainly lost all her pregnancy weight and then some, no doubt related to that little fatal crash on the 405 — poses with Omar Epps’ wife, Keisha, at Keisha’s baby shower.
