i haaaaaate this music but i have seen/heard so much hilarious john mayer stuff i really like him as a person. i’d hang out with him.
See that, is funny, and hard to disagree with.
But then, he tweeted “There’s no discounting for bad taste”. THAT is rude.
Especially considering his music is shit and puts people to sleep.

Mayer does sing and play his own instrument. So do hundreds of thousands of cover bands in bars across the USA. Yeah – he’s a better musician than nearly all of them – but he is short on great tunes (though I’ll give you “Waiting on the World To Change” – which sounds a lot like the brilliant Curtis Mayfield). John can’t hold a candle to his blues heroes – but most can’t. These guys were innovative / on the cutting edge. John just runs it through the bland blender. I do like his personality though. He’s candid and fun in interviews and photogenic.

I don’t think it was a joke at Britney’s expense, more than it was a jab at people who were dumb enough to think she sings live. It’s no industry secret that she lip syncs. Now, if John had said that about Ashlee Simpson right after her SNL debacle, I would have thought he was making fun of her. I think he was just making fun of stupid ‘fans’.
