R.I.P. Frank McCourt

It brings me great sadness to report on the passing of Frank McCourt, the brilliant memoirist who I consider a personal literary hero.
McCourt initially garnered attention with Angela’s Ashes, and went on to write two more bestsellers: ‘Tis and Teacher Man. His heartfelt words and his story resonated with readers worldwide, myself included.
He passed away on Sunday in New York City after battling illness for several years.

I feel bad he suffered at the end, he had such a hard childhood it almost seems like he should have had it easier going out. If you want a terrific read – his book Teacher Man, which is excellent and under read, is well worth you time and effort. An amazing man, the world is a little more diminished today.

So if Mr. McCourt had died along with his anorexic girlfriend when his meth lab blew up, you’d have considered the story more comment worthy?
Beet- a hero of mine too. He wrote with such simplicity and lack of sentimentality or sensationalism about a truly remarkable life. We’ve lost a treasure.
Angela’s Ashes should be required reading for every snippy entitled teenager who thinks they have it so tough. It amazed me how this man could come through a childhood like that with such a sense of humor and grace. He could see the good in everything. May he rest in piece. When he wrote, you could lose yourself in his imagery and storytelling.

Such a loss — his books were wonderful — I have them all — and shared them with everyone I knew. A wonderful writer, and a wonderful man. Go in peace, Mr. McCourt.
he was such a beautiful writer…he will be missed but luckily for us his words will live on.
My heart is just broken over this. He was a brilliant writer who will be greatly missed.
