Hey, Guys! An 80’s Movie Is Being Remade! Shocking!

I never saw the original Short Circuitbut I’ve definitely seen clips with a coked-out Ally Sheedy, a young Steve Guttenburg — where is he now? — and some demonic looking contraption that I think was supposed to be a robot. I read the synopsis of Short Circuit — basically a robot that gets struck by lightning and then has human qualities. Isn’t the movie Powder the same basic plot, but in reverse?
Now, they are remaking the 1986 classic. According to Variety, it will be the same basic plot but with obvious changes of technology. What? You mean they won’t have the main characters observing Johnny 5 on a computer the size of an African elephant?

I have a VHS tape of this that I picked up at a garage sale many years back, and the movie is still pretty awesome. Hopefully they’ll get rid of the awkward dancing scene that Ally had with Johnny 5 (too much sexual tension).

I would take Johnny 5 and a Short Circuit remake anyday over a Heather’s remake

yeah, and although I LOVED WALL-E, the minute he rolled onto the screen, I thought “They totally stole from Short Circuit!”

Ha ha ha…I remember this movie. It was terrible then and will probably be terrible now. It’s so sad that Hollywood is afraid to take on original screenplays. Everything is from a book or it’s a remake…even a shitty remake.
