New Dan Brown Novel Expected in September!!!
April 20th, 2009 by Evil BeetI know we don’t normally cover the literati around here, but I’m sure I’m not alone in LOVING Dan Brown’s books. He’s the guy behind The Da Vinci Code and Angels and Demons, and plus I’ve read some of his techno-thriller older stuff and it is like crack too. I haven’t had much time for pleasure reading lately with all the damn work I’ve had on my plate, but I will definitely put down the computer and pick up the Kindle for this new one. I feel like the Dan Brown books are like Harry Potter or Twilight for adults, in the sense that even people who aren’t normally big readers will pick these up and get sucked in.
Six years after the release of his mega-selling “The Da Vinci Code,” the Knopf Doubleday Publishing Group announced that Brown’s “The Lost Symbol,” a thriller set during a 12-hour period and featuring “Da Vinci Code” symbolist Robert Langdon, will come out in September.
“This novel has been a strange and wonderful journey,” Brown said in a statement issued Monday by his publisher. “Weaving five years of research into the story’s twelve-hour time frame was an exhilarating challenge. Robert Langdon’s life clearly moves a lot faster than mine.”
The first printing will be 5 million copies, Knopf Doubleday said Monday, a modest number considering that “The Da Vinci Code” has sold more than 80 million worldwide and inspired a spin-off community of travel books, diet books, parodies and religious works.
Are you guys excited or what???

Ok, I’ll admit that Digital Fortress was pretty great.
Our art history department chair offers a seminar series in which she utterly destroys “The Da Vinci Code.”
People who aren’t interested in legitimate art history have no idea how many truly disgusting liberties he took with fine works of art.
There is a wikipedia page a mile long listing the factual inaccuracies in The Da Vinci Code; he pretty much made the whole thing up. But then again, it is fiction. I don’t find the religious/historical bullshit offensive in the least compared to the atrocious writing.
Still, you’re right: they are like crack.
I personally enjoyed the religious aspect of davinci code. Raised in the church and being taught we’re all equal but at the same time having the womans role being submissive always confused me. I used to always say, even before I ever heard of the book, that yes the bible was written by god but translated by man and man is very flawed. So I liked how he explored that, even if there were inaccuracies in the art history.
Dan Brown is *snort* literati? Y’alls need to read some good books. Try anything shortlisted by the Booker prize, to start.
My problem with The DaVinci Code extends beyond its inaccuracies: it was boring and predictable, the two worst sins a thriller novel can commit.
I must say that I think Dan Brown is one of the worst writers ever. His idea’s for stories are obviously incredible but he just can’t write. I did like Da Vinci Code for its story, but i just wish someone else wrote it. I like cringed through some of his writing it just sucked. He should give all of his great ideas to someone who can actually write. His execution sucks. Makes me so mad
Before you criticize someone else’s writing, maybe you should brush up on your own and learn that it is “ideas” and not “idea’s.”

hmm I don’t remember criticizing his grammer
worst ever? ever? you know miley cyrus has a book, right?
Not excited. Don’t read Dan Brown.
I guess I’m “or what,” because I seriously wish he’d never been given a book contract. It’s fiction, but it could have been done so much better. And, of course, I’m not jealous at all that he’s made a bazillion dollars on that damn thing! ;)
Wasn’t a HUGE fan of Da Vinci Code (I minored in Religious Studies and there were so many inaccuracies in that book it burned me) but LOVED Angels and Demons..currently reading Deception Point at the moment and loving it too! Don’t know if the new film will be any good cause Da Vinci Code sucked!
well i’m excited!! dan brown’s novels aren’t serious literature, kids, they’re just for entertainment. and the man can tell a good story, even if his execution is sometimes schticky.
Historically inaccuracies aside, all of Dan Brown’s works are really just examples of poor writing. The story may be interesting, but the author just doesn’t have the skillz to back it up.
I know I read both of his novels, awhile ago. From what I remembered, I enjoyed them.
Only part that sucks is that I’ll have to wait until next year for it to come out in paperback.. all his books are great reads… Angels and Demons is better than The DaVinci Code; and Viggo Mortensen or Hugh Jackman would be better suited for the lead in the movies; especially if he’s gonna make a longer series out of this character.
