Jimmy Fallon Can Even Un-Funny The Onion

In the opening monologue of Tuesday night’s Late Night with Douchebag Who Will Never Be As Awesome as Conan O’Brien,”Jimmy Fallon told a joke about an airport in Prague called the “Franz Kafka International Airport”:

“A new study has ranked the Franz Kafka International Airport in Prague as the world’s worst, due to long lines and lost luggage. It must be bad, because the second worst airport in the world? The Hudson River!”

The only funny thing about this “joke”– aside from the irony that it crashed harder than US Air Flight 1549 itself when it hit the Hudson– is the fact that the “Franz Kafka International Airport” in Prague exists only in a story on The Onion’s website (and perhaps inside the existential dillemas in your mind).

It was part of a satirical news video which reported that the airport tormented its visitors with, amongst other things, dead-end terminals and a shuttle service that loops around the airport and then deposits passengers back at their original starting points.

To be fair, this gaff is most likely the fault of someone on the writing staff at Late Night. I’m sure Fallon is too busy murdering humor to actually write his own bad jokes.

Yeah, he’s almost as unfunny as Dane Cook, but I’m confident no one can ever actually overcome Dane as the worst comic ever.

I always liked Jimmy Fallon, but I think his dry humour isn’t really a great fit for late night. If he was more enthusiastic I think he would do a good job but the funny lines with his ‘i am not really that enthused’ attitude really don’t make for a funny show.

I heard he did improv for most of Fever Pitch and I thought that type of humour would be PERFECT for late night.. just the way he’s conveying it on air is falling short.

fallon is chevy chase minus 30 years, and their late-night shows will fare the same…

  4. FrozeRightHere says:

Hmmm. No offense, but I think he’s pretty funny. Maybe not that joke (okay, not that joke) but overall. Easy on the eyes, too. His “dance-off” with Cameron Diaz was awesome.

  5. Roofie says:

Yeah, I’ve been pretty surprised by all of the hate going his way. I enjoy his late night show.

And it’s annoying to consider him as a Conan replacement, considering that Conan will be taking over for Jay sometime this year. People are trying to say that Fallon needs to be what Conan was, but all of the late night hosts have their own style to them. Don’t forget, people, if you lose Fallon, you also lose The Roots!

  6. Eloise says:

I have been a victim of this looping-shuttle service at the Prague airport. Not pretty. Not pretty at all.

Funnt thing is the Dallas airport shuttle does loop you back around in a circle. Missed my connecting flight from Frankfurt due to that, and due in part to the very very helpful staff there…

  7. Mahsa says:

The only thing Jimmy Fallon is good at is causing severe secondhand embarrassment with his bad jokes and incessant giggling.

  8. chester copperpot says:

i’ve never liked fallon, even when he was trying to be hilarious on snl way back when. in my opinion, the only joke he’s ever pulled off successfully is his career.

ps: kelly, this post offically made me fan. keep up the awesomeness!

  9. Sun says:

Kelly, this is the post that officially won me over.
I would also like to add that I’m sorry The Roots decided to take this gig…

  10. Abba-labba says:

    Kelly,

You are awesome. What an improvement on the weekend editor scene. Keep on kicking ass!

  11. mambaX says:

I have no complaints about Ruzyne airport
even if I had any, Prague is always worthwhile
as for Fallon, I am still doubtful he is worthwhile
but my son likes watching him

  12. ThatLisa says:

Ok, that makes more sense. The second I read there was a Kakfa airport, I was like, no freaking way!! – then, immediately after, ‘couldn’t he have made a better joke then?’

I heard his head writer is A.D. Miles… is that true? I looooove that guy. I haven’t watched it yet. I am not a huge Fallon fan, but the Roots do kick ass.

  13. bow chicka wow wow says:

Ok.. so.. what you’re saying is that it’s not ok to joke about the plane crash (i agree) but it is ok to joke about a more recent death “Next time I say something reeeeeally offensive, you can blame it on the epidural hematoma talking.”… hmmmmmmmmm

  14. Gabe's Mom says:

What a relief, I thought it was me! I watched his show for maybe 20 mins the other night and had to turn it off. I didn’t even break a smile, let alone laugh. He seemed like an overly excited junior high school kid showing off his new toy. So busy talking he forgot that he was supposed to be focused on his guest. I was disappointed.

  15. Nick says:

Stunningly lame writing/jokes along w/ bad delivery, timing, etc

Watching the monologue, you almost feel sorry for him. It’s that bad, and the audience non-reaction says it all.

Yes. Chevy Chase 2. Or Rupert (sic) Pupnik.

  16. Ann says:

I like Jimmy but the problem I have with him, is his dry humor… I think he was at his best with SNL. Nice guy but I am in agreement with another comment , he has got to work on his timing and delivery.

  17. girl says:

I do not think he is funny at all! He knows how to memorize things and be a saturday night live actor, and all that jazz, but he is NOT quick witted or seems to have any sort of personality besides that of an awkward, dense tool! i hope that his writers and guests keep insinuating this, because as a talk show host he needs to be quick on his wit and interview skills as well.

    JIMMY FALLON IS NOT FUNNY!!!!

  18. also... says:

of course, there will be always be those that are friends with tila tequila and think that she is so hot and sexy and there will always be those that enjoy dane cook humor, whatever that is…

btw…that airport sure sounds crazy, id hate to be stuck in that shuttle service!

  19. Patrick says:

I know it’s early and people are comparing Fallon to Conan in his early years, but it seems to me there are some people who are funny and some people who are not,and man, Jimmy Fallon is not funny at all.

He’ll have to completely change to be funny. Right now he’s a giggly school girl who has coasted through his whole career because he’s “cute.”

I wish him the best, really, but right now I just wish he would pull his head out of his ass and realize what he’s doing isn’t working and change up his shit.

Cause right now the guy who decided to give him the job should go apologize to Fallon and then to the public for having him embarass himself and torture us with his shitty show.

    The Roots are cool though.

  20. slick says:

So Fallon is not Funny… neither was Conan. Hell Pat Sajak was twice as funny as both combined on his late night show

  21. Greg says:

Yeah this guys jokes are awful…mostly the writers for sure but his delivery is just as bad. His borderline OCD behaviors at his desk are more annoying then Letterman’s laugh or Jay’s smugness. All he does at his desk is rearrange his shit…mostly plugs for Apple or Bud Light Lime which makes it even worse.

And for god sake Jimmy, ENOUGH NAME DROPPING! Every interview comes back to his work with the guest or his time working on a movie with so-and-so. This culminated the week after he was on SNL and the entire show on Monday was him reliving the taping and doing his catalog of impressions.
