Police arrested 194 concert-goers at the Phish reunion concert in Virginia this weekend. They confiscated about $1.2 million in illegal drugs and more than $68,000 in cash from the fans.

Most of the arrests were for drug possession, use and distribution, police said.

Here’s the crazy part: The 200 law enforcement officers who worked the weekend event were paid for by the band!

Getting high at a Phish show just ain’t what it used to be!

    why?

  2. Melissa says:

That’s some sneaky bullshit. I hope the leftover boys in Grateful Dead don’t pull this shit at their show in April. There are just some things you can’t fully appreciate sober.

Beet, why is the games widget gone? :/

  4. Rolls says:

Talk about a major buzz kill!…I’d never see them (act) again if I ever got busted at their show, or any show for that matter. That’s pretty much entrapment!
*Note to self, hash only at hippy shows*

I don’t think Phish really just decided to hire a bunch of jerk cops to come bust people. Most likely, the city of Hampton agreed to allow them to have the show there on the condition that they pay for the overtime or whatever for the cops. I’ve been to lots of festivals put on by Phish where they had the discretion to choose their own security and police presence, and it has been VERY relaxed. Virginia…. and Hampton especially, know how much money they can make busting all these people. This is one of the reasons we didn’t go to these shows and are waiting until they get to the midwest.

    haha, man.
I’m from Virginia Beach. Which is where this concert was.
It’s no surprise to me, really.

  8. copa says:

can someone explain to me just why they can take your cash?

    • ThatLisa says:

I’m thinking that the cash they took was probably from people who had enough drugs on them to be charged with selling/distributing whatever. I think cops can take it when it’s obviously drug money. No one else would have like $700 bucks on them at a friggin
      Phish concent

I have always hated Phish- they suck
now everyone else sees it too…. sucks they had to learn the hard way

  10. Sigh... says:

The $1.2 million in stash and $68k in cash totals are probably POST band/cop cuts.

This is SUCH Crap! Why, Phish, WHY??? You.Are.No.Longer. Fun.

  12. Señor Loco says:

I think they should just arrest anyone for going to a Phish concert in the first place and maybe for ever being born, too: http://www.ryansonline.com/photos/NYE/phish%20NYE%20pics/16.htm

  13. KLo says:

Wow, a lot of really good times and some amazing memories were created at Phish shows (my nation’s Grateful Dead). It’s awful that something like this puts kind of a damper on that : (

Back in the 80s, a friend of mine got busted at a Dead concert by a cop wearing acid wash. He blames himself for not realizing.

  15. Jen says:

Wow, people are pretty pissed at being arrested for doing illegal things. Who’d have thought that might happen?!

  16. Jenna Zine says:

I guess the cops had to pull double duty due to the tough economy. Quota time!
