Well, this is a surprise!

Caroline Kennedy has withdrawn from consideration to occupy the US Senate seat vacated by newly sworn-in Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, The New York Times reported Wednesday.

A person close to the decision indicated that Kennedy, the daughter of assassinated president John F. Kennedy, called New York Governor David Paterson Wednesday, according to the newspaper.

The source said Kennedy was withdrawing from consideration over concerns about the health of her uncle, US Senator Edward Kennedy, who collapsed Tuesday during an inauguration luncheon for President Barack Obama. He has been suffering from brain cancer.

Caroline Kennedy was planning to issue a statement later Wednesday, the Times reported.

If Caroline’s not in the running, does that open up the chances for Fran Drescher???

Please please pleeeeeeeeease???

  1. Mal says:

So what’s the real reason she’s withdrawing?

  2. Down Unda says:

So what skeleton did they uncover to have her withdraw?!

Call me a cynic, but I saw The Contender (great work by Joan Allen and Gary Oldman!) and so I’ve got to wonder what made her backtrack so late in the game?

  3. Down Unda says:

Ha ha.. like in The Contender, she’s apparently withdrawing because she wasn’t going to be selected (a la William Peterson’s character).

  4. Sharon says:

It’s more likely to be Andrew Cuomo, not The Nanny.
I think Caroline just finally realized she’s not up for it. It’s obviously got nothing to do with her uncle. She just can’t hang, that’s all.

  5. Resse says:

They just recently announced that those articles were incorrect and that she did not withdraw. Claims it was just a miscommunication somewhere between someone.

  6. Tracy says:

No Kennedys in the Senate? What the fuck is going to happen to the world?

  7. ricardo says:

she probably just felt entitled, and then she realized it was actually hard.

Ah Caroline want’s uncle Ted’s job if he croaks, and he’s having seizures; so she’s keeping her options open.. and Fran is a bigger ‘no experience’ joke. This isn’t a popularity job or posh do good, touchy feely splurge in money raising for amateurs, it’s exclusive executive profession to be accomplish by experienced law makers.

  9. Chuck says:

She finally realized that she’s not qualified to be anything but a rich celebutante. The birth lottery win for the Kennedy’s must finally be dying out.

  10. Erin says:

She released a statement that it was for personal reasons.

She revealed that she hasn’t voted in half of the recent elections. Also, she refused to speak to the media at first and once she did she was criticized for being inarticulate. She had proven not to have the instinct for politics that her name and family history would suggest.

It’s a smart decision on her part.

    The word is out;
“The real reasons?” which is several. Caroline may have some, er, irregularities with taxes and illegal maid service, but there is another donkey in the room hiding in plain sight. It appears that Caroline has been doing the horizontal frug with Pinch Sulzberger, and that her marriage to Ed Schlossberg is all but over. Paterson, who wants us to believe that he never seriously considered Mrs. Schlossberg (yeah, right!), has more than legal reasons not to appoint her. There are moral reasons as well. She is indeed her father’s daughter.
