Joaquin Phoenix Is Going to Be a Rapper?

This is total news to me, but apparently Walk the Line star Joaquin Phoenix has retired from acting to pursue a career in rapping, with an album to be produced by Sean Combs. He is scheduled to make his first public performance Friday at a Las Vegas club.

At the same time, Casey Affleck has decided to direct a documentary about Joaquin’s journey into the music business. Not only are Casey and Joaquin friends, but Casey is married to Joaquin’s sister, Summer Phoenix.

And I, for one, am now actually in Phoenix, and it is not summer, and I was just wearing a flimsy spaghetti-strap tank top at 11:30 pm and I was just fine. I don’t even want to think about how awful it’s going to be trying to run a half-marathon in the middle of the day, which is what I am supposed to do on Sunday. It’s a completely insane idea — but still seems more sensible than Joaquin Phoenix as a rapper.

good luck Beet! It was -8 here in Detroit this morning.

As for Joaquin Phoenix, good riddance. He was good in Walk the Line, that was it though. Maybe Casey the non actor Affleck will become his manager and I won’t have to see him “act” anymore either.

Ummm yeah. That’s how I felt when I read it… what?! why?! A freaking rapper. c’mon. it’s stupid. though it could be a good laugh..

  4. XXX says:

    I hope it wont happen…

Hmm I knew he was going to pursue music, but I was not aware it was rap. I find this hard to believe…but I guess we will find out! I can’t picture him doing that, but you never know, maybe he will be the next Eminem…haha just kidding.

Somebody has too much free time.

    He is officially insane.

    WHY JOAQUIN, WHY?
I thought he had some country/rock band going, not rap. WTF? He has such a smexy singing voice — why waste it on rap? You don’t even have to sing to do rap. Just look at Kanye West.

it would be interesting if this was all more centered around the documentary. like maybe joaquin has something to say about what it takes to be successful in the music industry, or more importantly how little it takes for people who are already celebrities, to do it. i doubt thats the case, but it would have potential.

i myself find it annoying when people try to do it all. i just want them to do what they did good in the first place, and thats it. dont make perfume. dont do a clothing line. dont start another damn celebreality show. let other people have something too, you greedy fucks.

He’s clearly in the throes of a profound mental illness or drug addiction or possibly both.

It’s so amazing to see someone like Greta’s comment (which is sensitive and human, and probably accurate) right next to Amanda Pants, who appears to be the poster child for vapid, empty, insensitive, and intellectually challenged. guess it takes all kinds…but if Joaquin Phoenix ends up killing himself like Heath Ledger (who, altho didn’t turn into a rapper, was wandering around muttering to himself, not showering, bearded, and looking a lot like this before her ODd) Amanda Pants will be the sort of person who’s all OMG I cant believ it Joaquin was like my BFF!!>!>!

  11. Amanda Pants says:

Casey Affleck is gorgeous. I would like to rip his clothes off.

Joaquin is a freak, I would take Mickey Rourke over him anyway.

Joaquin is a freak, I would take Mickey Rourke over him any day.

.. Ok thats a little extreme, but still, he’s mental.

  13. Tracy says:

    Kill me now.

  14. Indigo says:

    Wow, Joaquin has the crazies.

  15. me says:

joaquin is kinda startin to look like fat elvis.

  16. Persistent Cat says:

Joaquin is a great actor but I don’t like him because he takes himself waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay too seriously. I still don’t believe the rap part because it’s just too ridiculous but if it’s true, he’ll be back to acting in no time because he’s going to be so laughed at. Or shot at when he performs at the Soul Train awards.

Regardless of what he does, he’ll be back to acting.

  17. kate says:

Sooooo what is it? Has he been an acting genius too long without losing his shit so now’s the time? I mean why the frazzled fried behavior? Drugs? Even after what happened to RP? I’m guessing I’m weirded out because it doesn’t sound good. If his live stuff was any good, no one would be guessing if he’s getting high or having a breakdown.
Either way I hope he’s okay.

  18. c. says:

    im still not buying it!!!

haha…look at these two. soo hipsterrrr dirtyyy

  19. Rappers says:

Phoenix is a major idiot. Did anyone see his “performance” video in which he fell down while jumping like a deranged orangutan and passed out? Was supposed to be his first outing as a rapper. If that was so bad, I wonder how bad the rest of Phoenix the Rapper will be
