To categorize and judge an individual solely based upon sexual orientation is wrong.

So is it not wrong to judge a man’s entire character based upon a single opinion on a controversial social issue?

Regardless of what Rick Warren has said or done in the past, his prayer for President Obama and the entire country was not only well stated but much needed.

To say that the world economy is in turmoil would be an understatement. America is openly engaged in 2 wars. Iran and North Korea are boldly escalating their threats with each passing day. There are millions of families and children dying of hunger and lack of basic necessities…

With that in mind, Rick Warren asked God to provide wisdom, the courage to act, and protection for the country and the new president.

As a patriotic citizen and a believer in Christ, I believe with conviction that the content of the prayer said that morning should be focused upon… not the past mistakes of a man or who Hathaway thinks would have been a better pick for the invocation.

God loves you all!

Now, you know I’m a fan of Obama. I’m also a fan of bringing more people together in this country. However, I do feel that Rick Warren was a mistake. It’s ok, because it’s not a huge mistake, he’s only doing the invocation. He’s not at all a part of Obama’s cabinet or anything.

It’s one thing to be a Christian and oppose same sex marriage and/or homosexuality. But Rick Warren has been very vocal and very offensive to gay people- like comparing homosexuality with pedophilia. I think Obama should make this up to folks by repealing DOMA. I think he owes the gays (and straights who see this as a civil rights issue) a favor, and that one is doable.

Obama cannot openly support gay marriage because no viable politician can these days. He supports everything but the word, though. Civil unions with exactly the same rights as straight couples. And he’s talked about repealing DADT. He also has an openly gay member of his cabinet.

That fact that Warren is, like Obama, against gay marriage is not why I and others are unhappy about the pick. Warren equated gays with pedophiles. The LGBT community is the only minority that public figures can trash with impunity, and Obama’s selection basically says that’s fine with him.

I think it was for publicity. I mean, why is he using the Lincoln bible? For the shock value! Warren is an extremely popular man right now, and he fits the bill.

Obama is going to bring people together that would never otherwise be brought together. That’s part of change. It’s not going to be a group of like minded people sitting in a conference room stroking eachother’s egos and totally agreeing with every word his says. People of opposite beliefs will bring forth the change that this country needs. I don’t totally agree with this choice but I see what he’s doing. Also, he doesn’t agree with gay marriage, he’s never claimed to. Joe Biden made that VERY clear in the VP debate. They do believe in equal Civil Rights though.
