From the just-released official stills for Guy Ritchie’s Sherlock Holmes.
Basically, it sounds like Guy Ritchie called up RDJ a few months before shooting began and was like “I want your body to look like my wife’s.”

LOVE him, absolutely love Downey Jr., and I always, always have, whether he’s been high or sober, doesn’t matter. I’ve loved him since I first saw him in Less Than Zero. I’ll always love Robert Downey, Jr., and I’ve got immense respect for the man. He’s a strong person; I admire strong people.
Like, literally strong both inside and out, now, it would appear! I like this new rippled-muscles body he’s rockin’, very nice.
