Delgo, the animated kids flick voiced by Jennifer Love Hewitt, Val Kilmer and Freddie Prinze Jr. had an opening weekend gross of $511,920. This is the lowest-ever opening weekend gross for a film opening on more than 2000 screens. In fact, it had a per-screen average of $237, numbers lower than even Jessica Simpson could dream of.

A truly remarkable failure, guys.

Congrats.

I think their failure is in the marketing. I never heard of this movie.

  2. mambaX says:

looks like a blend of ET and Shrek

  3. cubsfan says:

Ok, so if my fairly well informed 10 and 6 year old kids give me the WTF? look when I asked them about this movie just now, I would say the marketing was terrible. NEVER even heard of it.

  4. kk says:

never heard of it either. although i think i once saw the preview.. once. a long time ago..

  5. Persistent Cat says:

I don’t so much go to the movies as I watch commercials and read Rotten Tomatoes. Never heard of that movie.

  6. gNorah says:

does anyone else feel a little better about themselves whenever a movie with otherwise famous actors tanks? I dont know, I just hafta smile whenever i read stuff like this.

  7. mimi in mo says:

ditto what everyone else said. I’ve never even heard of it & I have a 5 & 6 yr old.

  8. Gail says:

My kids and I saw a trailer for this at High School Musical 3 and it was the only time we’d heard of it–then or since. It looked like a crap movie though.

    • Ugh says:

Same here. Saw a trailer for it in the theater two different times. And I thought it looked horrible. Everything about it was just ick.

  9. Diane says:

I saw 2 commercials for it that aired during either “Batman: The Brave and the Bold” or “Clone Wars” on Cartoon Network. Neither commerical mentioned it had well-known voice actors or if it had any sort of plot at all besides lizard monkey fairies doing semi-magical oriented things on some form of quest. So, yeah, kudos to you marketing execs.

  10. Nova says:

Our TV is always on kids channels and I have NEVER heard of this flick or seen a preview or anything. Bad marketing…like everyone else is saying. Sad.

  11. briana says:

huhhh?? I have NEVER heard of this thing. yes, awful marketing. thats too bad. it looks really good. not.

  12. Heidikins says:

Ok, so I saw tons of previews for this on Cartoon Network while I was at work. And it seemed to have the most fantastically bad plot ever. It looks like they just ripped of random things from good movies. I’m actually surprised anyone saw it. They were probably too embarrassed to market it.

  13. Erin says:

I’m sure all of that money it made can be accounted for by friends and family of the actors/crew and people who showed up too late for the movie they REALLY wanted to see and had to settle for this.

  14. ThatLisa says:

    are they lizard-chimps?

  15. Katie says:

Never heard of it, looks POOR QUALITY to me!!!

  16. Hallie says:

Who the hell put this movie in over 2000 theaters?

  17. Roma says:

See, and this is why Freddie Prinze Jr. is now a writer on the WWE.

  18. DHS says:

This problem is that this movie doesn’t do justice to Jennifer Love Hewitt’s boobs.

Hey, it could have been a moneymaker.

  19. liberty says:

    terrible looking.

freddie prince jr and jennifer love-hewitt??

who the hell told these ppl that casting these actors was a good idea???

    whoever it is they’re fired.

  20. lolly says:

maybe this is some tricky marketing ploy in itself where they will get the movie out there by making us all say, “wtf is delgo?” then when we finally see the commercials we say OHHHHHHHH. and go see it.

    could happen.

  21. Krys says:

I’ve never even heard of this…

  22. Tracy says:

Ditto on the never heard of it thing.

  23. Jo says:

uh, maybe people didn’t go because they saw that poster…

  24. anon says:

This looks like the kind of movie a gamer would like but they are too busy sitting on at their pc playing games too go to the movies.

  25. Stevie xo says:

Ok so it’s a movie about ugly scary ass looking aliens, being chased by what I can only assume are the flying monkeys from the wizard of oz and they have with them a levetating golden shit nugget? Wow that looks fucking awesome!

  26. R Vaughan says:

Why is it that Jennifer Love Hewitt never had a major hit movie (the
    big screen?)

Her only major accomplishments have been on televison (the small
    screen):

    “Party of Five”
    “The Audrey Hepburn Story”
    “Ghost Whisperer”

This “Delgo” movie….was voiced some 5 years ago…and it’s mainly of
    interest,probably,to Jennifer Love Hewitt collectors….
