Whoops!

December 8th, 2008 by Evil Beet

Seventeen years in the making, Guns ‘N’ Roses new album, Chinese Democracy, hit the U.S. charts at #3 this week, selling a disappointing 261,000 copies. For comparison, Britney Spears’ original “comeback” album, Blackout, sold 290,000 U.S. copies in its first week, despite Britney doing absolutely no publicity for it and being an overall nutcase at the time.

Democracy was topped by Kanye’s new 808s & Heartbreak and Taylor Swift’s Fearless (which was released nearly a month ago, ‘natch).

So … do you think these guys’ll just go away now?

Uh, that’s not that large a difference in volume, especially considering demographics of purchasers.

One can only hope they go away. On another note, saw Stephanie Seymour in an issue of InStyle magazine the other day…

In regards to stores, you can only buy it at Best Buy. That could make a difference (although the opposite happens if Walmart hawks your shit).

don’t post pictures of the band that no longer is. those men in the picture you posted are the REAL GNR, not that thing masquerading as the band now. c’mon Beet, you’re smarter than that.

I say that it’s a decent showing considering people rarely buy rock albums. Especially not teeny boppers with a disposable income who, I’m sure, had a lot to do with Britney’s album.

Also, I don’t think they’ll go away now, no.

What ever happened to the Dr. Pepper deal? Did that pan out? Dude, Appetite for Destruction was awesome! Loved it. Lost interest now though. I heard they were bringing out the album and was like, eh. A bit like I will be with Eminem’s new stuff.
