Paris Hilton’s Flick Not a Total Flop … at the Box Office

November 10th, 2008 by Evil Beet

Repo! The Genetic Opera only opened on eight screens this weekend, but it averaged $6,711, a respectable showing. But take into account that it only opened on eight screens.

The reviews are less than impressive. Rotten Tomatoes’ top critics give it a 10% (out of 100). Reviews say that “Repo! might have been an SNL or MADtv skit, but as a movie, it should be repossessed by its financiers” and “The film is bad — not good-bad, tacky-bad or fun-bad, just plain awful and nearly unwatchable” and “This goth rock opera features buckets of gore, a campy score and melodrama galore in a calculated effort to become a 21st-century Rocky Horror Picture Show. Its creative juices, however, are strictly anemic.”

That’s kind of sad. I had high hopes for it to be a new Rocky Horror. Oh well.
