I actually like that he is putting it this way. I think now, he is talking about it a lot. But I never understood why it was such a big deal to talk about being gay all the time. When i meet someone it’s not a big deal that I am straight, that doesn’t seem to be a big deal, but in all the gay people I met, even my friends, it seemed to be something that defined them. Like I’m so and so, and I’m gay. That’s nice, didn’t need to know that last part but ok.

Actually, joan, I DID get it.:-) I just wanted to say that the full blog, not the excerpt at People.com, was a surprisingly good read. No harm, no foul.

I fully agree with him that it is totally up to the person to determine when they are ready…it’s a tough journey. But he seems really serene about it all. Good for him.

As to the “already knew” …these comments, if I’m being honest, are harmful, really, in that it feeds into stereotypes that many, many times are not true and subjects those objects of those stereotypes to sometimes pretty damned horrific actions and harrassment. Not comforting for those skinny, non athletic, musically inclined, goofy young men that AREN’T gay. And that’s just not right. Along with acceptance of the truly gay the NOT GAY but are seen that way need to be accepted and left the hell alone. YMMV

Beet, honestly, that blog is a good read. He manages to be compassionate and understanding, not condescending, yet for all intents and purposes, basically says “deal with it”. I thought it was well done.

He really is an intelligent, well spoken celeb. What’s up with that???
Aren’t they supposed to be all “duh” and whatnot? Heh.

Actually, I have to give him props. I imagine he’s ready to not speak about it any more, either. That wasn’t an interview or article, but a blog on his message board. By the way, some of those less progressives over there really hammered him with the Anti Christ, burn in hell, bullshit. If I were him, I’d tell ‘em to fuck off. Guess he’s more evolved than me.:-)
