I think it's a shift in times, where you finally realize that something can and is a problem. I believe that there are people who will abuse of the term "sex addiction" for their own purposes (whether it be cheating or something else), but no doubt there are others who do the same with other addictions. The only difference is that those addictions are now taken seriously. I believe that once something makes you physically and mentally sick, than it is no longer a crutch or an excuse, it has become a huge problem and where sex, alcohol or drugs are involved that usually means addiction. I just wish him the best, everybody deserves to be happy and people I'm sure would be mocking him a lot less if it were any other type of addiction. Years ago bulimia and anorexia weren't in the headlines, or even thought of, but now they are. So bear this in mind: there will always be new and worse addictions coming into exposure. The question is how willing are we to accept their existence, in order to aid those who are suffering from it? Also...alcohol or drugs is in itself not easy to quite. Anybody who"s suffered from alcoholism or drug abuse (or whose seem many people struggle with them, like I have) know how difficult and gut-retching an experience it is. But once out of rehab it's a mind-set of: I will simply never touch that again, but with a sexual addiction it brings in a whole other mind-set. One I'm afraid we still can't predict or understand, for you can't simply just say to yourself: I shall never have sex again as you would with any other substance abuse problem; "I shall never have one drink again" or "I shall never touch druga again", sex is very different and even though I am no medical doctor I know this much: you cannot not have sex. Here inlies the problem than. How do you treat an addiction, which one cannot seperate itself from? If you know the anwser than by all means enlighten the rest of us, but if you do not (which I'm pressuming is most of you out there) than please, don't judge.
