Jon and Kate Plus Eight Gets Nasty: Aunt Jodi Tells Her Side
August 23rd, 2008 by Evil BeetYou guys may or may not have noticed, but a certain page of this blog has, in the past months, somehow become a de facto discussion board for Jon & Kate Plus 8 fans (and critics). If you don’t believe me, click here and read the comments.
A popular point of discussion over there is a blog called Truth Breeds Hatred, which is supposedly written by the sister of Aunt Jodi, who is married to Kate Gosselin’s brother. If you watch the show, you know that Aunt Jodi was very involved in the first seasons of the show, basically bending over backwards to accommodate Kate’s every babysitting need — sometimes watching all eight of the Gosselin kids, overnight, in addition to her own four children. For free! And then when she didn’t show up in the most recent season, people started suggesting that Kate was bitter because Jodi’s patient and kind mothering skills were making Kate look awful in comparison, and also noting that the producers offered to pay Jodi for appearing on the current season — she had been doing all of this shit for free up until then — but that Kate put her foot down, said “no one gets paid for this show except our family” and booted Aunt Jodi out of the kids’ lives.
The Truth Breeds Hatred blog discusses all this from an insider’s perspective — confirming the rumors and basically painting Kate as the most horrid, despicable, selfish person on the planet. But was the blog really written by Jodi’s sister? Were the things she said about Kate actually true?
Today, Truth Breeds Hatred ran a video clip of Jodi, who seems genuinely crushed by how Kate betrayed her, and confirming that her sister does write the blog, and that it’s the truth.
I kind of hate how fascinated I am to watch all this play out, but I really do love it.

The interview with Hailey wasn’t much…I think it is being done only for ‘a cash flow’ since Jon cannot do interviews because of his TLC contract. I think they are doing it for a shock value to keep people interested. Honestly….what woman would get on national TV and trash the man she supposedly loves? You guessed that one right away without even seeing it Maris.
Ok, what is this show that is suppose to be on tomorrow night “Kate, Her story”? Not another poor me interview I hope.

I hear now that Jon and Hailey are taking some time off from one another… And Jon has already done interviews bashing TLC so I don’t see what a few more are going to hurt. They are already started to take him to court.

I do agree with Jon going to ‘a man of the cloth’ for help. What more of a nuetral person to speak too…but I disagree that it was televised and people were charged $20. to attend-it kind of looks as if it too were for the media’s enjoyment and not for mental healing. It should have been behind closed doors and private. I am sure the media would have found out and he could have still had the publicity without seeking it.

Kate, has caused all of these problems. You don’t treat people the way Kate did, and not pay the price. A very high price I’d say. She has eight beautiful children, and she is responsible for destroying the family, not John. He is just stupid and can’t grow up.

Have you guys heard that all this excitement for the past year with the Gosselins might be all fake just for ratings and attention. Something like the balloon boy. I read it somewhere (and can’t remember where).
rachel, Im not lieing but I thought it two days ago! I never head anything about it but almost posted it to you . I almost said what if this is all a joke and they get back together and the ratings are higher than ever and they can demand more and more money! I swear in my life I thought it a couple of days ago. I almost screamed when I read your post!!! IF it is true , I really feel sorry for those kids! rachel , try to remember where you heard or read it…. :)

Wow, Julie that’s weird!!! I can’t imagine them doing this because they will serve some time like balloon boy’s parents. But on the other hand it does make some sence. The Hawaii show with Kate repeating her self that mommy and daddy will stay together forever. Then the sudden breakup. Now Jon is breaking up with his soul mate and Kate is talking kind words about Jon???? Too weird.
have always thought kate was too bossy ,treated jon like he was a severant or hired hand, her body gaurd, leaving jon behind to take care of the kids and house to travel. she treated him not like an equal.
If they get back together, it’ll be because TLC and Kate twisted Jon’s arm until he said uncle, NOT because they really love each other and this was all a stunt. Nope, can’t buy that one. Now, I think there may be a slim possibility that Jon may be deluded or desparate or depressed enough by now to agree to give it another go with Kate, but I don’t believe it’ll have that “happily ever after” fairy tale ending and I don’t believe it’ll have huge ratings if they continue to film themselves. It’s true that people morbidly like to rubber-neck at accidents on the highway, but not a lot of them park their cars at the scene so they can continue to study it in every bloody detail…
I agree, I do not think that people will continue to watch the drama very much. We get bored by overexposure. If it were on the show and we get to watch Kate mistreat Jon and go “I wonder why he lets her treat him that way”. Well Jon showed us how he deals with bullies!
rachel, I saw in the new Taylor Swift do Kate on Saturday Night Live….
she used the word “acutally” alot. She was cute! … Unlike the real one.

rachel probably , I was thinking remember the show when Jon and Kate went out to dinner and Jon was ironing his shirt, and Kate went ape shit on him. He helped with the dining room and that still wasnt enough…… Im glad she is gone… She kept callilng him a girl and taking so long to get ready.
seems as if Kate is pretending to redeem herself. Her last 2 episodes were her saying ’she should not have’ treated Jon that way…she over reacted…she was stressed…etc. Hell, she even used the line ‘treated him like a dog’ (isn’t that my line?)
I don’t know if I am reading too much into this…but it seems that she has made comments to the things we are saying here-almost as if her PR rep is keeping her informed.
I was happy to see Jon ‘calming’ things down on his end. And taking a break from Haley was a good move. He has so much to do within himself at this time, and should focus on that. I understand he has been beatten down and he is lonely….but Haley is just a child and Jon needs to move on. Besides…I feel she betrayed him that night in their joint interview….
Glad he is with family in Hawaii. Think he needs that positive reenforcement only family can give.
I think that Kate was way too hard on Jon at times. He would let go on her at times too. That was just the way their relationship was even before Jon and Kate plus eight came along. When they would show home video prior to the kids, she was the same ( granted she was just a tad bit bubblier). She was over critical of him then and treating him like a lesser half. But that was the way she was. Then the pressures of trying to keep everything so perfect finally got to her, I think. Because there were times when she behaved a little eccentric in the beginning as well. Jon always struck me as a go with the flow type guy. i always enjoyed the way he handled the children because he let them be kids. Kate just wanted a perfect little family. I think that Jon went to far when he began an extramarital affair with that Glassman chic. I think he could have done that a little more gracefully. There is a way to do everything. I cannot blame him for wanting to get out and be with someone new after being humiliated for years by the woman he loved on national television. But was it really love? Kate, by pretty much her own admission, just wanted to be with Jon for his asian genes and Jon was just there for the ride. She was the controller. I do not think Jon would have even considered going out with Kate ( he was already in a relationship at the time that she started going out with him, which he ultimately ended once when Kate told him to). Then she pushed the kids issue on the poor guy way to fast and way too early in the relationship. I mean the poor guy just barely had time to get used to being married then suddenly he is the father to eight wonderfully gifted and talented children. Most of their marraige they have been surrounded by kids. I think the breakup will do them both some good if they can just get over it and get over themselves. I honestly only watched the show because of the eight children. i thought how wonderful it was that they are all so bright and healthy. I thought what a blessing it was to be the mother of such a fine brood. Kate did become a little hollywoodish as the seasons kept going by and she was still on the air. But which of us can deal with that type of exposure to our daily lives. I honestly think if the show had been like Little people, Big world, or 18 kids and counting, where the people tend to keep themselves grounded and approachable like the normal people they are, there would not be such a big buzz. I think Jon and Kate stepped out of the box of normal house wife and working dad and into the world of we do not have to make a living for ourselves anymore, we will just live off the fame of the show. This show was merely supposed to be a look into the hectic and daily goings on of a family that is not quite like your own. It was like an opportunity to get a glimpse into someone else’s life and how they really do keep it together amid all the chaos of having that many children all the same age. The new family also looks well grounded (Table for 12). I think once that hollywood environment takes over the home, the effects are irreversible. Now it is like they are both addicted to the fame their children brought to them inadvertently. I think Jon should have realized he did not want a life with Kate prior to going to Hawaii to renew the vows. I think that did more harm to the children than good. Especially when love the spotlight Kate told the kids that this ceremony means that mom and dad would be together forever. How damaging do you think that kind of confusing stuff is to Cara and Mady, both old enough to halfway understand the message. My heart goes out to those children and I hope that they never grow bitter toward their mom or their dad for their mistakes or shortcomings, because we all have them.
No matter what or how much Jon did it wasn’t good enough for Kate ever. I watched an old one about shoes. A pair of shoes didn’t fit any of the kids but kate had to keep them. And then the hair ties. Jon was doing the girls hair and she was moaning about only using certain ties if they are staying home. She was just way too controling. With eight kids she just has to let some of that stuff go. Hopefully she has learned a lesson. But, I doubt it.
well Kate wanted Jon home more so she could do her “own” thing and help her with errands and dr appts and such. So he does that and people call him a tool and he is lazy blah blah.. I only saw him work on that show. Kate sat back and barked. How she acts in that interview like some calm quiet woman. HA HA………. WE ALL KNOW better those of us who watched the show since day one. She says she will buy the ring balh balh for her kids so she has a ring on. WHO cares .. care about the kids and NOT A RING. Get a job! stop worring about things. Maybe she should move back to the old house? Its still for sale. Make her “bills” lower . I hope she just goes away and concentrates on her kids. She is the biggest phoney and will one day pay for what she has done to her family.
Hey Julie, it isn’t even who watched all the shows from the beginning that can be objective to what has been seen. Being new to ‘kates drama’ I saw in 6 months of reruns how Kate went from the occasional degrading to the attacks on this poor mans every action and thought.
I truly enjoy the reruns from 07 and some of 08. What a beautiful family and life she had….how did she turn into such a monster? SHE just got worse and worse…and now has become this bitter women!
Even these last episodes…always the caddy comment against Jon-and she thinks it cute. She will probably die a lonely women.
Great point Julie about Kate moving back to the old house. Although she would never do that now. She thinks she’s a movie star and would never move back into such a small house. Remember she couldn’ t have anyone in the kitchen with her because she couldn’t breath. I wish my kitchen was that big! I’m curious to see what the next two week will be like on the show. I’m sure she will be pouting alot and claiming that the kids are sad because they really enjoyed filming the show. Oh and that ring. Those kids could give a rats ass about her getting a ring. Does she think we are stupid???
Oh my god you people are very mean. I don’t see any of them helping the situation. Soon these people will just be a memory. Who cares as long as the kids are being taking care of.

She put herself in the public eye.We HOPE she takes care of them, how she talked to them on some of the shows is just a fraction less then a bi#$% to her own kids. She talked to them as if they were all 15 years old and could understand her mean comments and andsnide digs and how she treated their father infront of them. SHE is mean not us. Says something when your own family isnt around for support doesnt it? Where is the nice Beth who wote the book for her ? Where are her parents ? Where are her bros and sister? So true, Julie, and the sad thing for her is the worst is probably yet to come. Kids grow up, go to college, move away, get married and have families, makes lives of their own. If she continues to behave the way she always has, her kids (and/or their wives, husbands, friends, lovers, etc.) won’t want to be around her. There could be some very lonely Thanksgiving dinners in her future…
Well she was so brass and cockey saying take me or leave me. Well guess what ? They all left. Maris, right ,future Thanksgivings could be very lonely in her household. How much longer does she need a bodyguard? Her show is done. Kapot! Do you think she learned any lessons in life on how to treat others? Her way is the only way or hit the highway? After the kids go to bed at nite she sits on her “all mine” what 35 acres and a big house all alone. Hope you enjoy it Kate. Wonder if she reflects on her past mistakes? Was’nt only Jon.
I’ve heard it said that the wisdom of experience is the ability to recognize a mistake… right after you make it. Kate’s said on more than one occasion that she doesn’t (didn’t) watch the episodes they taped — she’d put in one for the kids to watch at nap time, but that’s about it. If she’d take a long “sit down” and play those shows from beginning to end, she might get a clue. If she continues to live in the moment and act on what her feelings are, she’s likely to act the same since she feels the same. If she were to choose to reflect on the past by really watching those old episodes, really open her eyes and imagine how Jon and others might perceive her, who knows? I remain skeptical. People at her age don’t tend to change their basics. I think it will take some lonely Thanksgivings in the future before she’d be willing to take a cold, hard look at things. For the sake of this once charming family, let’s hope it isn’t too late…
Hi Maris, this is what I have said from the beginning. It went from small comments to a vicious attack on Jon every time he did something. In her last few shows she does acknowledge these things that WE comment about and just blows them off as ‘oops I shouldn’t have said that or I was a bit tough on Jon’ but five minutes later she makes a comment similar to them. As she became more comfortable in her fame her ‘true colors’ came out more and more. We are all ‘who we are’, but I think her being so uptight and controlling is a personality flaw that she will never be able to change.
When you wake up in the morning you choose what your day will be/ you pick your attitide. She needs to stop and really reflect on herself. Watch her own shows (poosibly in order) and maybe, just maybe she may see what the world has used to make these judgements. If she could only do it with an open mind she may learn to humble herself. I am sure it was never easy on her to run a household with 8 children and she did start out in the right direction back in 2007. She needs to reflect on what came next and how she turned into who she is today. I kinda think that she has made such a mess of everything that she is now at the point of being so overwhelmed with the life she created and doesn’t know how to fix it.
I just read on comcast news that TLC is developing another show for Kate. Some of the comments are quite funny and Kate is definately not loved by many. I guess this blog will continue.
It just said at the end of tonights show “In memory of Nana Janet”. Does anybody know what happened to her. She was such a nice lady.
rachel, all I know is a few weeks ago in the news it stated she died, didnt say how or why. ;( .. what a nice nice lady . If Im not miskaken she had 10 grandkids of her own… She was sweeteart.. :(
Thanks Julie. I just googled her and the obit. came up. She must have had cancer. And yes she did have 10 grandchildren. People wrote in and said that she took care of Jon when he was little. I think that is wrong didn’t a lady with dark hair take care of Jon. I can’t think of her name. Nana Janet did Kate’s laundry while kate did????? Whatever!

I was thinking of the show where Mady got her ears pierced and she was getting ready to go out and Kate looked at her teeth ( Mady’s) and said “JON DIDNT YOU BRUSH HER TEETH LAST NIGHT?” my gosh almighty didnt Kate ever bathe them, or help them at night. When Jon was doing all the bath routine WHAT was Kate doing, on that show he is explaining how much conditioner the girls go thru a week , and Kate sits there like the husband clueless! Jon did all that work for her . Kate was spoiled !

I heard about Kate’s a long time ago, but didn’t know about Jon’s GF. This is the girlfriend whose father was Kate’s surgeon, right? Seems like Kate had hers done at the same time as the tummy tuck then tried to keep it quiet. Worked for a while…
No, That surgeon would not do it for her because he said it was not needed. She had it done recently but the word is just getting out now.

rachel what did she say about him? have you seen and heard the audio on radar on line , jon talking to someone… I m pretty sure he didnt know he was being recorded… this world is sick…….
