Jon and Kate Plus Eight Gets Nasty: Aunt Jodi Tells Her Side
August 23rd, 2008 by Evil BeetYou guys may or may not have noticed, but a certain page of this blog has, in the past months, somehow become a de facto discussion board for Jon & Kate Plus 8 fans (and critics). If you don’t believe me, click here and read the comments.
A popular point of discussion over there is a blog called Truth Breeds Hatred, which is supposedly written by the sister of Aunt Jodi, who is married to Kate Gosselin’s brother. If you watch the show, you know that Aunt Jodi was very involved in the first seasons of the show, basically bending over backwards to accommodate Kate’s every babysitting need — sometimes watching all eight of the Gosselin kids, overnight, in addition to her own four children. For free! And then when she didn’t show up in the most recent season, people started suggesting that Kate was bitter because Jodi’s patient and kind mothering skills were making Kate look awful in comparison, and also noting that the producers offered to pay Jodi for appearing on the current season — she had been doing all of this shit for free up until then — but that Kate put her foot down, said “no one gets paid for this show except our family” and booted Aunt Jodi out of the kids’ lives.
The Truth Breeds Hatred blog discusses all this from an insider’s perspective — confirming the rumors and basically painting Kate as the most horrid, despicable, selfish person on the planet. But was the blog really written by Jodi’s sister? Were the things she said about Kate actually true?
Today, Truth Breeds Hatred ran a video clip of Jodi, who seems genuinely crushed by how Kate betrayed her, and confirming that her sister does write the blog, and that it’s the truth.
I kind of hate how fascinated I am to watch all this play out, but I really do love it.

hello people…well ill start bye saying the reason i believe kate has 11 bank accounts is because 8 of those must belong to her kids if you know any thing about the entertainment industry it’s the law…… any minor child that works in the entertainment industry must have whats called a ‘jackie coogen’ trust account..parents can not tauch this account nor can the child untill the child turns 18 years of age…….also nancy grace putt jon in his place witch was funnyer then heck…i loved it…jon needs to lay off and stop been such a pig..he says he wants whats in the best for his kids?i think if that where true then he would stop all this crap he is doing with tlc…that show helps kate better support your children jon…kate has always been straight forth about what the show has done for there family and the doors that have been opened for them because of the show…and yes the money as well…y are there so many haters out there wanting tlc to cancel the show?if this opportunity came to you and you all where offered that kind of money…..u no you would do it to…because who would’nt…if you new it would make life better for you and your family my gosh be honest…i no i would do it….
i agree brenda-totally,jon wrecked his family’s life,kate is still trying 2 carry on a life 4 her kids…jon is just pissed bcz he doesnt want 2 c kate make it without him.
brenda, interesting comments, for one thing I dont think you can say anyone would do anything. You dont know if I or anyone else would sell their kids souls for money. Its been done for centeries and will continue but I dont know if I would. I have two sides to that, maybe in the beginning I would say yes but once the kids got school age and interacted with other children I think not. Then one side of me says hmmm no, you have no life anymore. You life is an open book to scrutiny and constant criticisms. You ask why so many haters,( I never said I hated her) thats a strong word, but Kate has showed her real side of being a mean cruel, abusive person not only to Jon but to those kids also. She talks to down to them sometimes
( in the past) like they really could understand her sarcasims when they were quite young. If you go to some other boards you find also lots of people think Kate is unappreciative and self-centered. Being married to Jon didnt give her the right to cut him down and belittle him every chance she got. Slap him and lets us all know she wanted the thin Jon with hair she met years ago. Comeon she is nurse she knew her chances for one more child after the twins were quite impossible. Dont get me wrong Im sure it was difficult with the many babies she had, caring ,feeding, and wanting the best for them. She just came across on the tv as woman who thought she was right 200% of the time, and used people , friends neighbors people from church to make her life easier. ( no family??) What grandparents wouldnt want to know those lovely kids? Unless something terrible happened between Kate and them?
Im hoping in the end those children will look back and feel they had once a wonderful life minus the cameras , thats not natural. Im also hoping they get help with their feelings if they so ask for it or show signs of needing it. My last thought is peace for them and a happy life ahead.
I pray Kate plus 8 will continue. I don’t think it is wrong to have this family on T.V. I just wish Jon would go back to Kate work things out and stop acting like an out of control teenager. The kids are adorable and so well behaved. Kate seems like an awesome, well organized mom. I know she is bossy with Jon, but she has eight kids. Give the woman a break. I just think Jon and Kate needed to spend more time alone with just the two of them. You can be parents but you still have to work on your marriage. God bless the Gosselins!
I was thinking today for those who call Jon a “tool” or the ‘9th child”
He was the one who got up in the morning emptied the dishwasher, got the girls up, swept the kitchen floor if needed, got the twins off to school, got the little kids up and make Kate her coffee. Oh yea and made all the beds bathed the kids boy and girls dressed them for bed and whatever else Kate had for him to do. Took trash to the recycling center. (Kate is not a morning person) (even tho a mother of 8)
Lots of women would love a partner who helped like that, this woman was spoiled. Jon has said on the show he was attracted to Kate because she had direction. Well I think she used that way and beyond of what most adults do.
Giving Kate a break because she had 8 kids doesnt give her a pass to be rude, obnoxious and selfish. Lots of people with many children are kind caring and loving. I understand she was busy , but so are many others. Its all realitive. Some moms have to work outside the home, still does’nt give them the right to be cruel when they get home.
In my opinion Kate blew it with her family. She didnt listen to anyone but herself. Did she even try to work on her marriage. No. She wanted to do the show and that was her bottom line. When Jon expressed his opinion to stop, she waved her hand in his face and said , the show will go on or something selfish like that. It takes two to be in a marriage not just one making all the decisions and taking over. Her opinion was her and Jon wanted differnt things out of life. Shame on her for not even trying to undertand he didnt want to be on tv anymore.
Ive said it before Ill say it again, I hope the kids will have a great productive lives….. and arent scared by a tv camera in their faces since birth……

Julie, you forgot one. She never went to the gas station. She felt that pumping gas was a “mans job”.
right! she never pumped her gas Jon went in the night to do it….. she was one spoiled person. The episode he is talking about how much the girls use in shampoo and conditoner , she is looking at him like what? Since she never seemed to do it…… the episode where she wants Jon to play with the kids he came home from work early so they go outside, then she tells him to clean the garage then watcht the kids then shouts and goes in to make lunch. When she gets angry she has to clean or cook. Cara says in the episode Mommy tells Daddy what to do and she does is sit on the chair. She always tells Daddy what to do. …. they see it Im sure of it. :( Remember pumpkin carving they are all having fun and she freaks and has to clean it up they were almost done! She needs help……. with her ADD or whatever she has.
Julie, I remember now when she waved her hand at him saying the show will go on. It seems now that she must have thought that as long as she let him have what she thought he wanted (other women? — they were having trouble at the time) then he would let her have what she wanted (more money, more air time). Well, that didn’t go as Kate planned, obviously. Jon may be acting like an out of control teenager, but it looks to me like Kate is throwing the bigger fit. She’s just more sophisticated, cunning, and manipulative about it, and she’s obviously got a lot of people fooled.
Did you see where they went to court yesterday? Jon was ordered to give back much of the money he took, BUT the judge also ordered Kate to produce records of how and where she’s spend HER money as well. They both have until Oct. 31. Hmmm… There might be a new spin on her expression of “Mine… ALL mine…”
Well, if Jon is a “tool” , Kate is a “tool-ette” and Im sure she is hiding money.

Every time Jon opened his mouth she’d either CORRECT HIM OR ROLL HER EYES AS IF TO SUGGEST HE WAS SUCH AN IDIOT’ ! What a ‘B’… I actually felt sorry for him. I stopped watching the show because It made me feel uncomfortable that SHE WAS SOO RUDE TO HIM. She picked him! And then ‘HEN PECKED’ him right to divorce court….SURPRISED????? And STOP with that quivering,victim-like, fake voice KATE !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Has anyone been on the TLC site lately? I went to see what they had to say about the last show being in Nov. There is place where you click there it says “best top 10 moments” but , you have to put in a password and username? whats that all about? I dont know if I want TLC having any info on me. I didnt do it….. whats your thoughs about TLC saying they are going to sue Jon ? Im no leagal beagle but from what they both said when they signed to the show they had NO legal representation. Not so smart , I think Kate just saw dollars signs. Well I dont want to say too much about this I dont have too many facts. Have a great weekend everyone! :) …………

It won’t matter what any prior contract says if Jon no longer wants his children filmed — NO judge will order him to allow that. The most TLC can do is sue him for breach of contract and be awarded money. BUT, if Kate won’t let him HAVE any money, what exactly do they hope to gain?? I personally think it’s a scare tactic to try to force him to finish the season. Jon is in desparate need of a really sharp attorney (and I’m surprised one hasn’t stepped forward yet) to return the favor and sue the hell out of TLC for violating his children’s rights under the Jackie Coogan law. Jon (and even Kate) might not have known, whether or not they had representation at the time, but TLC damned sure should have. Yes, the drama just goes on and on…
fyi brenda: gosselin kids dont fall under the actor law. kate has said herself the kids are not actors, they are reality t.v. Thats part of the reason that jodi and kevin are so upset, because those laws dont apply to the gosselin minis. it wasnt until she filed for divorce that she set up accounts for the children, as advised by her attorney. she said it herself in a recent interview. so she has been lying this entire time. another lie. jodi and kevin are trying to get the laws changed because of this very reason. it wasnt until she thought jon could blow the whistle on her about money for the children that she FINNALY set up accounts for them. HMMMMM……. they both have said that kate controls the money, so it was her responsibility and she didnt do it until recently. (five years later) HMMMMMM ……..

My question is…how are they gonna support the kids now that the gravy train has left the station…Jon and Kate will have to get jobs. Jon’s lifestyle will go down the drain. Kate can always go back to her old house, its still not been sold. That was a cute house, not good enough or BIG enough for her.Who is she trying to kid I knew plenty of large famlies that lived with ONE bathroom and couple of bedrooms. She just has in her mind nothing is good enough for her unless its big and large, the funny thing is she has 24 acres or whatever and the kids played in the front of the house for the photogs to see! Did they ever play in those $$$$$ crooked houses?

Did anyone hear this , that Jon and Kate signed a paper saying he could date and do anything he wanted as long as he showed up for filming of the show?Thats why she cant sue him for infidelity in the divorce. Thats how much the show meant to her , more than her marriage! I read that on the Balitmore Sun newspaper online.

Julie, I heard that about Jon could date anyone as long as he show up for the taping of the show. That was kate’s idea. I watched the today show with Kathie lee and Hoda. Some entertainment reporter said that Kate will get half of Jon’s money. I really don’t know what that means? I thought that everything will be split in half. Maybe I misunderstood. Just doesn’t seem fair.

rachel, did you think Kate contridicts herself alot ? In that atricle she did . One minute she says I never cry , its a waste of energy, and the next she is on tv crying poor. The article kind of made her look silly. I could tell her and that Sherrie from the view “bonded” both men bashers at the moment, since that Sherrie is going thru a divorce too. See the end of that aticle , books by the Gosselin kids, it bound to happen. I believe went to Jon and said it was over thats what Kates bro Kevin said too. My friend and I have this converstaion all the time over these two , she says I know you like Jon but I would have kicked him out long ago. Why? I ask. He helped her all the time. Most women want that . I said to her last nite, listen, its not that I really like either one of them I think they are both nuts, but my point is and always has been I dont like how Kate treated Jon and others. Entertainment tonight just had jon on with his new girlfriend in New york city. I do have to say that I am happy for him that he has found his sole mate. He really seems very happy with her. You have to figure after 10 plus years of being dragged around by a leash the guy deserves a break. I saw one of the earlier shows this morning (news is too depressing for me) and Jon was making “her” coffee and waiting for Kate to get up and “start barking out orders”. The comments from previous show are very funny from Jon. I think that their problems started long ago.
Julie, I did notice that Kate and sherry on the View bonded and that’s the reason why I stopped watching it. That article was really funny. What about her shopping in FAO Shrwartz. She is a real beauty!

I don’t know if anyone remembers, but in one of the first couple of seasons Kate said that if any one of the family decided that they didn’t want to do the show anymore they would stop. What happened to that? Obviously the money and greed is what happened to that. As far as what do they do now to support their children? They start acting like the majority of north american families today and they get up every morning and go to work! The life of the working class would likely be easier with family to lend a hand, so they’re outta luck there since they’ve pushed them all away. Sometimes it sucks to have to sleep in the bed you’ve made for yourself. So incredibly sad how this whole thing has turned out. I feel very bad for the kids and hope that they find peace.

Julie, I caught that line too in the interview that “acting comes easy to me”. I couldn’t stop laughing. I remember that she fired most of the recording crew. Only a few of the originals are left. Boy, I bet they could write a good book about their experiences with Miss Kate.
Once this show is cancelled I bet it’s not going to be the end of this family or at least Kate. She will try her hardest in the “hollywood world” because she craves the attention. It’s too bad those poor kids will still be suffering.

I was just thrilled to find so many other viewers felt the same way as I do. I watched the show from the beginning and loved it. But I hated the way Kate treated John. Once all this divorce stuff started I just cannot bear to watch the show. I even started watching 18 kids and counting instead. I always feel as though Kate is not only acting, but also lying to make herself look better.
I just hope she is not going to get away with it, get John off the show and carry on by herself. And I do not see John as the big villain he is being portrayed. For those who watch the show, we know what he had to go through. I will never forget her almost screaming at him in the Supermarket.

Actually, in most people that’s considered to be a defensive stance as if you’re expecting to be attacked. In her case, however, perhaps it’s an offensive stance since we seem to find it offensive!

well is the way she talks on interviews , kind of “softer” ? Like the vulnerable? The wounded Kate ? The Victim Kate? You know what I say to that? WHATEVER…….. she is fake, phoney and hipocrate. I dont believe much that comes out of her mouth. She laughs now? woww!
Kate is so fake because she is interested in only the money. Watch the show on WE to see how parents of sextuplets should behave. These parents display so much love for their children. Kate is interested in whining about herself yet she finds time for spa days, and she spends a lot of time at the salon.
I like them both: yes they both have issues and one is no better than the other, especially to those kids.
They are both over whelmed and need a break, and I don;t see that coming with Jodi gone, for a long time.
MONEY is the root of all evil, and it also help keep you out of the elements.(No one has mentioned parenting classes for neither parent). And some help for Maddy, who is a L. Lohan waiting to happen.)
Rachel, she IS on Comedy Central… in fact, she and Jon are the butt of jokes on nearly every channel except TLC. Whenever anyone wants to reference how reality shows can go horribly wrong, they cite Jon & Kate. It’s actually rather sad when you consider how heart-warming the show started out. Jon is right to want to get his kids off TV. I just wish he’d done it a few years earlier…
And you know I’ve just got to repeat myself (for those of you who know me) that it’s the LOVE of money that’s the root of all evil. Greed, enough never being enough, putting money ahead of your family’s welfare because you love it so much. It’s a damned downright shame that Kate can’t see that she (and especially her kids) will be the butt of jokes for eons to come because she wanted “more” for them…
Well said Maris. I watch the earlier shows and often say that they ruined a good thing. They were just normal people trying to get by like the rest of us. What ever happened to the speaking seminars that they use to do?

Kate didn’t show up for court today. She was in California at a womens conference with Maria Shriver. She is moving up the ladder fast. Although she thinks so.
Julie, I missed that about Jodi and Kevin. I hope they were able to visit with the kids. Kate will be STEAMING when she hears that. Will Kate have alot of work when the show is over?? Good Question. I think that this talk show thing with Paula Dean will most likely happen but not for long. I think it will be cancelled early.
I have only watched this show for the last 6 months…recording all reruns to catch up on this family, and watched them in order as much as possible, so their life is very fresh in my mind. In the begining I loved them…what a wonderful family who made smart choices. Jon worked a ‘real job’ then would run home to help with his family….Kate (however overwhelmed) did her best to keep things under control and be a good mother. But as time went on Kate became such a evil wife. I would think to myself…she needs to watch the show and she how she is treating poor Jon. He couldn’t even get the door closed before she was barking out orders…no ‘hi honey-how was your day’. I honestly believed she did not realize how she was perceived from our end. As I continued watching…my heart went out to Jon and the kids…AND Now I think..what a monster! What a fake…what a piece of *#@! this woman has become.
Why isn’t her family ever over to visit? (Sometimes I wish mine didn’t visit so often LOL.) Where are the girlfriends or the ‘marital friends’ ? Only ever heard of Jon spending some time with friends. Guess Kate didn’t have any…not from childhood or left from her days as a nurse…
I would like to see the original Jon and Kate + 8 continue for the financial wellfare of the family and it could be done if she got off her high horse, kept Jon in the picture and acted like a civilized grown women with the true intentions of the children coming first….but Kate just isn’t that kind of person. It is now all about her….screw Jon, screw the children….her true colors are now showing.

I’ve watched the show since the very first hour-long documentary through all the changes and seen how it’s devolved into the K-eight disaster it is now. I don’t condone cheating, nor do I think divorce is the solution for everyone, especially when children are involved. I don’t blame Jon for needing to get away from Kate, however. Who can live their life with their spouse’s constant belittling and criticisms? Has he no right to be loved and respected?
As for friends and family, Kate had those in the beginning. She alienated her parents before the show began. She shed the friends, family, and neighbors as TLC began to provide more help and she no longer needed them. (Keep watching the reruns.)
And finally for your question — sorry, but I got a big laugh from that, and I thank you! Questions like yours (and I’m sure there were many) were weeded out long before air time…
OMG is everyone sitting down!??????? Kate wants to me in the movies!!!!! She has a piece on People.com. She thinks she has done enough tv years, and its a comforable place to be. She would like to be a voice in a cartoon!………….. Im flabbergasted! I dont even know if I spelled that correctly, but she thinks she is something! Oh my gosh guys what do you all think? Hate to say I told you so, but… Kate’s gotten a taste of the limelight, showbizz, and she’s NOT going back to wiping butts (as a nurse) — you can bet your bottom dollar on it. If she can’t get a part as an actress in a movie or a cutsie voice in a cartoon, she’ll go from one reality show to the next, but she’ll stay in the spotlight. Bet on it.

I started to watch the show last night but her constant blah, blah, blah, me, me, me put me to sleep.
OMG!!! Just read it on people.com She is a beauty. Oh and about the dogs, that got me fuming. Are they gone forever, “I’m hoping not.” Yeah right. I could bet a million that she does not even take those kids to visit the dogs. I’m sure It was all her idea to get rid of them.
Don’t worry about the dogs returning to her. It was televised that she didn’t care for them or about them, and anyway, Once a dog has been returned to a breeder they will not ‘release it’ so she can have another chance later! Any good breeder will take their dogs back if they are unable to be cared for and find a new home for it and they also would not allow that person to adopt another dog. I think the dogs will be safe!
I heard her comment about the dogs — not that I believe for a second that she would ever want them back — but it made me wonder just what does she expect? That the dogs should just be held in some cage until she has further need of them? Sounds to me like the exact same attitude she has about people…
maris and Kim I dont think she will take the dogs back either. I think its too much work for her, and I think she thinks they are dirty. Yes I also feel likes she thinks she gets speical treatment from everyone and the dog trainer included.

Did you see Jodie and Kevin on tv again advocating for children in reality series? I saw the piece on net. They were glad to see the kids again. Did Kate have to approve that or just Jon since he had the kids? About the dogs I think they are too messy and needy for her to cope with, I think she will never get them back ( or should I say want them back) .. Did you see on people.com that she said the kids education money can not be touched? Did she account for the money she took. I feel for Jon there are two sets of rules in place one for him and one for Kate .

Oh my gosh..Did anyone think eight kids single mom two dogs…I think two kids-hubby a full time job is enough let alone a dog in the mix.How about Jon being abusive to kate when the cameras weren’t on. We don’t know what happened when the doors were closed. All I can say he is messed up and need serious help. Kate needs to relax and get help for ocd. I think Hailey is looking to make some cash before she bails on Jon.
I hope Jon can find some peace thru all of whats gone on in his life. If seeing a rabbi helps him be a better person, father, friend and really feels like he is back to a place where he wants to be , I hope he can. I think Haily Glassman dumping her problems on tv is wrong. If she doesnt want to be with Jon fine , but to add to the mess of his life , she knew he had 8 kids when she met him and a soon to be ex wife and was in the spot light. I think she is not mature enough to understand what really went on or is going on. Ten years of abuse from Kate and not being able to trust anyone anymore would be crazy. I cant imagine it. If she felt that strongly about how things were going why not end it or talk to him about it?……. maybe its time he just think about himself and his kids . I think Jon is a people pleaser and Hailey saying he has trouble with the truth is somewhat true. I think for all these years he walked on egg shells with Kate and had to dance around many subjects. I dont think he should lie , Im not saying that at all. I hope he finds a good place to be in his life along with the kids…
I think that Jon should just be alone for a while. Not sure why Hailey had to discuss their personell life with the press. Jon also needs therapy(and not from Dr. Phil) living with thReat crazy one for 10 years I’m sure he doesn’t know what end is up.

I haven’t seen or read any of the interviews Hailey has given, but here’s just one thought. Maybe Kate is trying to strip Jon of so much of his money that he wouldn’t even have enough for a lawyer (or for whatever reason he might need money). If Hailey earns $$$ for her story, whether or not it’s true, Kate couldn’t touch that. IF she truly loves Jon — and I really don’t know since I don’t follow the whole mess any more — she might just be willing to help him out like that. He’s being depicted as evil by the press anyway, so why not be paid for it? Wouldn’t that piss Kate off??
