Actually, Darth Paul, Paul Verhoeven directed Basic Instinct, too. It was the movie he made right before Showgirls.

I looked that up on IMDb, but it’s actually written in the first sentence of Berkley’s quote, dude.

Not that I’m defending her, or anything. I’ve never read the script of Showgirls but if it’s anything at all like what ended up onscreen, I’m not sure what the hell she was thinking.

I got to see Showgirls in the theater recently with live commentary by David Schmader. Good god, that made the movie that much better. It’s gloriously trashy on its own (and I also love the cartoon bras when it’s aired on TV) but Mr. Schmader padding the movie makes it that much better. He is also responsible for the commentary on the special edition of the DVD, but I would much rather see it live. He stops, rewinds, and replays the particularly ludicrous scenes and brings the house down with insane laughter.
But Elizabeth Berkley is still a massive idiot.

Yes, Eagle Eye, but I’ve never seen such expert donkey ball sucking in my life!

She’s a dummy for thinking it would make her. The director- not the writer- is the one who’ll make or break a film. So she should’ve compared herself to Sharon Stone in “Total Recall” (same director) rather than Basic Instinct. As I recall, Stone barely raised an eyebrow in Total Recall.
