The Next Miley Cyrus???
Meet Selena Gomez.
She’s the star of the Disney Channel hit Wizards of Waverly Place, and she’s supposedly the girl Disney execs have their eye on to make into the next Miley Cyrus. She’s got several film roles lined up, and she’s in the process of signing a record deal with Hollywood Records (owned by Disney), which also puts out Miley’s albums.
You know what’s crazy?
This girl is 15, just like Miley.
She has the face of, well, a four-year-old. I mean, really. Selena looks like she just got done baton twirling on the stage of some manner of child beauty pageant. She makes Miley Cyrus look like a senior citizen.
How soon until she’s sporting mini-skirts and halter tops in her music videos?
Can we at least let these kids be old enough to drive before we go making sex-symbol mega-celebs out of them?

wow beet i’m surprised. didn’t you just openly say how at sixteen you were having sex with a boyfriend of yours in his parents’ tub? and didn’t you also say how it’s okay to let 15 year old girls understand their sexuality in the midst of miley’s photo scandal? plus, this girl seems like she has it together. i doubt she’ll be getting knocked up anytime soon. let her enjoy success. i really like her and it seems like disney knows a star when they see one. this girl deserves to be a star.

^^ in the UK (I know Beet’s not in the UK, before you all start bitching at me) its legal to have sex at 16. I don’t understand why there are different rules in different countries, but whatever.
Anyway, I hope this girl DOESN’T ge corrupted by the industry, it would make a nice change. They could get someone better to do her hair, though. the red is BAD, BAD, BAD.

It doesnt matter what Beet said now because 1) shes not 16 anymore 2) wasnt broadcasting her sexual exploration at 16 to all the 16 year olds in America. 3) Evil Beet is a pop trash site (no offence intended beet), not a production of Disney which claims to be Americas ‘breather’ from reality.
We dont need any more preteens/teens looking up to slutty role models. I’m sick of seeing 14 year olds in tube tops at the mall. Lets hope this generic hispanic future-money-maker-of-Disney doesn’t fall prey to ideals of this whole 1980s in a recession vibe we have going on right now.

Yeah, I’m not necessarily opposed to teenagers being sexually active. But these girls are very public role models for 10-year-olds, and I am opposed to 10-year-olds being sexual in any way at all.
Mostly, my concern is with the mega-celebrity. At 16, I didn’t really have a clear idea who I was, I still had a lot of figuring out to do about what I wanted in life and what defined me. We’re forcing an identity on these kids as we make them into mega-celebs, and that’s what concerns me most.

I don’t think Selena will be reaching Miley Cyrus status anytime soon, though she will be very popular. For all the talk of how quickly Miley’s rise to stardom was, fact is, she didn’t become a household name until her last tour and movie, both of which broke all records. Until then, Miley was just another Disney star, though a star on Disney’s most popular series.
But what really sets Miley apart from all others is…… MILEY. Really - I don’t know where she gets all her energy from - I get exhausted just listening to her. On tour she’s like a dynamo, always giving her fans one heck of a show. If she had no talent, that wouldn’t matter much, but she’s quite talented and it shows in her music, of which she’s writing more often now, and in her acting, which is better too.
No one knows the future. But I just don’t see any other star, in or out of Disney, that can replace Miley Cyrus. She is a rare find. The Disney execs know that. They are not stupid and they’re trying to hold unto her as long as they can.
