I Don’t Care What Perez Hilton Says, I Think Beth Ditto Is Kind of Disgusting

Okay, people: Fidel Castro is not dead and Beth Ditto is not sexy.

Look. I get what she’s trying to do.

She’s a lesbian (although she’s dating a transgendered “boyfriend”). She’s an outspoken feminist. She’s fighting for gay rights. And that’s all okay with me. In fact, I think it’s great.

But she’s really fat. And I guess what she’s trying to do is demonstrate that big is beautiful. Big is sexy. Big girls can wear small shorts.

But you know what?

No.

Sorry, but no.

And I’m sorry if people think I’m setting back the women’s rights movement like 100 years, but no one likes to see a fat chick in shorts like that. And it’s not healthy. And it’s not smart. And obesity is an epidemic in this country and while I’m all about sending the message that it’s okay to be gay and it’s okay to be an outspoken woman and it’s okay to deviate from the norm, I’m not about sending the message that your BMI can be equivalent to your height in inches and that’s okay.

At a UK music festival this weekend.

  1. 'lise Says:

    ugh, i totally agree!

  2. malren Says:

Perez likes her because she’s one of the only people on earth fatter than him. He likes Rosie for a similar reason: she’s the only one uglier.

  3. Krista Says:

Remember in middle and high school when everyone thought I was the fattest thing on two legs? Well, looking at Beth gives me perspective in a world of Kiera Knightlys, so even if it’s not sexy and I don’t want to look at it, the more she’s out there the better.

  4. sara Says:

i’m pretty sure i wouldnt call those short shorts…those are definitely underwear…and maybe she should wear clothes that actually fit her instead of squeezing into a size she isnt

  5. jojo Says:

You know, it’s fine for those of you who have never experienced a weight problem to go around berating large people, but in the end it’s just as bad as gay-bashing or racist comments. Ridiculing fat people is the last bastion of bigotry that is accepted in this country. You ought to be ashamed. Yes, there are plenty of chubby and tubby people out there who are to blame for their own weight problems, but the majority of overweight people are victim to genetics, poorly functioning thyroids, or the need for anti-depressants.
I think you really ought to re-evaluate your harsh and dismissive criticism of fat people. There’s not a one of them out there who isn’t suffering enough themselves, without having self-righteous thin people “weighing in” on their misery.

  6. Clementines Says:

There’s fat +40 lbs.. then there is Hippo obese + 140 which is deadly..

  7. mambaX Says:

fat people are victims of their own mouth.
in poor african countries you’ll find thyroid and depressive problems too, but you won’t find morbid obese because they simply have no food to eat
and actually, the lady is making herself look ridiculous

  8. sara Says:

jojo i do agree with you, as i am overweight but she should not be dressing that way no matter if she was fat ot skinny! put some damn pants on!

  9. Shan Says:

HeeHee. I just went blind in my left eye.

  10. lee mitchell Says:

    “kind of” disgusting?…that’s an understatement.

  11. Vermillion Says:

Sorry, but this Ditto lady lost any credibility and/or sympathy she had when Perez Bleeping Hilton decided he would give her his Pink Goblin Seal of Approval.

And for the people who think this is fat-bashing, give me a break. I KNOW I am a fat ass, and feel just fine and dandy about it. Doesn’t mean I am going to coat myself in Vaseline, shove said fat ass into some bicycle shorts, and parade around downtown hoping for love and acceptance. That is called delusion.

  12. lee mitchell Says:

Ummm, after looking at this Ditto broad, I think I’ll keep the light on before I go to sleep tonight….and say a prayer… sprinkle holy water…think happy thoughts…

  13. Persistent Cat Says:

Fat-bashing is NOT the same as gay-bashing or being racist. A thyroid problem is a great excuse but really, it all comes down to what you eat. That woman is obese and is promoting herself as if it’s acceptable when it’s not. It leads to heart disease, diabetes and other harmful diseases. Don’t hide behind a “condition” because you overeat.

Go to continental Europe and then come back to Canada and the US and then try to adjust to the inordinate amount of fat people. It’s our culture not a “condition.”

Meanwhile, I think I’ll add that picture as our new wallpaper to freak out my husband. Then to appease him, I’ll switch it to Beckham. Win win.

  14. mambaX's mouth Says:

Yeah, us mouths are funny things. We’re the real problems. Simple brains aren’t a problem at all.

  15. jojo Says:

Funny you should bring up Europe. Persistent. I lived there for more than 13 years of my life. In fact, I recently returned from a 7 month sojourn in Germany. I don’t know how recently you’ve been there, but things have changed drastically in the past 5-10 years and there are scores of overweight people there now, too. I was really shocked. One of my colleagues at the schoool where I worked when I was there asked me what notable changes I had seen since the 1990s to today in Germany and I had to comment on the stunning change in levels of obesity….he agreed.

As I said in my earlier post, there are surely many people who could just adjust their activity levels and eating habits and have good results and who knows what Beth what’s her name’s reasons for being obese are, but there are also many, many overweight-obese people out there who have a very difficult time no matter what kind of activity level or amount of dieting they try… They deserve a bit of compassion, because I’m sure it can’t be easy to go through life that way.
And explain to me why isn’t Fat-bashing the same as gay-bashing or being racist? Just because you say so? Or because it’s someone’s own fault???? For hundreds of years, people felt that being gay was someone’s choice, too. A little compassion and understanding and kindness go a long way…..
Give me a picture of a fat person any day over a thin LiLo, Britney, Paris or most notably Nicole….

  16. LAMO! Says:

No one wants to be fat in the same way that no one wants to be stupid. Unfortunately, we do not live in a perfect world and we have many fat people as well as an inordinate amount of stupid ones.

What the epidemic in this world is the way food is processed and marketed to us. Meat and vegetables pumped so full of drugs you might as well be mainlining steroids. Processed foods with so many drugs bringing their own host of problems we have yet to know fully.

Also, we have to be smarter about the way we eat and come to terms with the fact that overweight is unhealthy and do something about it. But that not only goes for obesity, it goes for a whole host of problems, from mental health to health in general.

So, what’s the real issue here? Snarkyness and fat bashing? Showing our compassionless side? Feeling good about our skinny bodies and ignoring someone else’s pain?

Or it could be trying to impart wisdom on a gossip blog. I guess I’m just one of the inordinate amount of stupid people in the world.

On that note I’m off to eat a whole pizza. Anyone of you fatso’s wanna come with?

(That last sentence was a joke, lest anyone forgot to bring their sense of humour with them.)

  17. jojo Says:

mambaX, you can find plenty of overweight people in Africa. When was the last time you opened a National Geographic?

  18. LAMO! Says:

    I forgot one thing.

Poor African countries wish to whatever God or Goddess they feel in their hearts would bring mercy on their souls, that obesity was their problem. You might want to think twice about using them to back up your theory on whether or not people being overweight is just a matter opening their mouths to insert the wrong food.

  19. jojo Says:

    FYI people…

Here is one of the many articles I found on the causes of obesity

    http://www.mc.vanderbilt.edu/reporter/index.html?ID=2618

    Dr. Rudolph Leibel
    gives lecture

    by Bill Snyder
Leptin may the key to understanding why most diets fail, a leading obesity expert told a Vanderbilt audience on Tuesday.

Leptin is a hormone released by fat tissue that helps the brain regulate appetite and body weight. Among other things, it is designed to ensure reproductive fitness and survival in often-hostile environments by preserving an adequate amount of body fat, said Dr. Rudolph Leibel, who co-discovered the hormone nearly a decade ago at Rockefeller University in New York.

Fat cells shrink during dieting, and so does the amount of leptin they secrete into the blood. When leptin falls below a genetically and developmentally determined “threshold,” the hypothalamus in the brain is triggered to release other hormonal and neurological signals that increase food intake and reduce energy expenditure.

The result is the well-known “rebound” effect – re-gaining the weight lost through dieting, over and over again. “This is one of the biological mechanisms that tends to defeat efforts to treat this disease,” said Leibel, now professor of Pediatrics and Medicine at Columbia University.

There is hope for dieters, however. Extra leptin given to people who have lost weight appears to “trick” the hypothalamus into accepting their new, lower body mass. The amount of energy burned by their muscles increases, and they are less hungry, he said.

Leibel said it is too early to think about implementing “leptin replacement therapy” because the long-term effects of leptin administration are not known. It also will probably take more than one type of therapy to reverse obesity, which results from a complex interplay between genes and environment.

But the discovery of leptin and its receptor in the mid-1990s has led to new understanding of the molecular pathways that regulate body fat, and how those pathways might be tweaked to help dieters fool Mother Nature.

Leibel, who also is head of the Division of Molecular Genetics and co-director of the Naomi Berrie Diabetes Center at Columbia, gave three lectures at Vanderbilt University Medical Center this week as part of a Pfizer Visiting Professorship in Diabetes. He was a guest of the Division of Pediatric Endocrinology.

Obesity and its twin epidemic, type 2 diabetes, are the consequences of genetic susceptibility in the presence of too much food and not enough exercise.

More needs to be done to encourage lifestyle changes, including reducing caloric intake and sedentary activities, Leibel said. At the same time, it is important to understand why some people seem to be more susceptible to becoming obese, and why it is so hard to lose weight once it has been acquired.

“Knowing by which genetic mechanisms the system is predisposed to lay on additional calories in this way could probably help us to design more effective environmental interventions,” Leibel said in an interview.

Genetics also is helping physicians and the public realize that “obesity is not the result of slothfulness or misbehavior,” he said, “that in fact body weight is a regulated system like blood pressure.”

The evolutionary necessity for efficient reproduction depends on having an adequate amount of body fat. “More fat is better than less fat in this regard, so the system has actually been evolved to protect body fat – not prevent its accumulation,” Leibel said.

This is why dieting, liposuction and other efforts to remove fat without changing the signals going to the brain usually fail. “If we’re going to successfully treat obesity … we need to figure out how to set this threshold downward and keep it there,” Leibel concluded.

The reasons for obesity are complex and it is a difficult problem for many people to master. Those people who struggle with it should not be made to feel less worthy as human beings or to feel ashamed of themselves. That’s really my point here. Be compassionate and caring… that’s all.

  20. Persistent Cat Says:

People are born gay or the race that they are, there’s no choice in the matter. People are born with different skeletal structures. Some have a bigger frame than others but as long as they have a healthy weight for their frame and height, that’s great. I refuse to accept that there is no choice in obesity. I used to be one of those lucky souls who could eat whatever they want and not gain an ounce. Then that changed. I don’t want to be fat so I have to watch what I eat. For the most part, I’m a size 8 and I feel like a pig. I don’t blame society as much as I blame men who go on and on about how hot Keira Knightley is. However the blame is really with me, that’s my issue, not everyone else’s.

I was in Europe for awhile a couple of years ago and seeing a fat person was a rarity.

  21. LAMO! Says:

I was in Europe a while ago too, and seeing a street without dogshit everywhere was pretty much the norm. Has that changed?

You’re right Persistent Cat. The blame lies with the women who care what the men, who go on and on about how hot Keira Knightley is, think. Because honestly, if you don’t care about that sort thing then you live a happier and healthier life. I can guarantee it would be a more sane one.

Slit my throat if I come on and say a negative thinking man (or woman) dictated my way of life. Please.

By the way, there are still many people who think being gay is a choice, so that battle is not won yet.

  22. jojo Says:

    fyi ….

I did not claim there was NO choice in obesity, but that obesity has complex causes that are not always as cut and dried as “get off your fat ass and stop eating that Big Mac”…And I suggested a bit more compassion, because I believe that obese people suffer greatly in many more ways, than most “fat” size 8s can imagine. (and no I’m not speaking from personal experience but from having known and loved many heavy people in my life)

Check out the World Health Organization’s Report on the rapidly increasing rate of obesity in Europe. It backs my claim that obesity is rapidly increasing in Europe.

    http://www.euro.who.int/document/E90143.pdf

  23. mambaX Says:

obesity is increasing here in Europe, that’s a fact.
kids eat lots of junk food and we do the same. I care about people in poor african countries, the example was just to make my point and not due to my lack of compassion.
when you eat, though, you must also spend energy not to gain weight, and many of these morbid obese are people who suffer from psychological disturbances and hide behind the pizza.I also understand that.
but I don’t understand why the lady decided to appear wearing a “fashion design”that makes her look like a loonie.
Either the mental problem is bigger than I figure or she really loves to show her assets.
    That’s her choice anyway.

  24. Clementines Says:

People want to eat cheap and fast and horribly over pay for it in the long haul, pun intended..

  25. LAMO! Says:

You brought up a good point about poor countries. You mentioned African countries, but what about Samoa? It’s poor, and most of the people are over weight. I’m not trying to be combative because I think this Beth Ditto lady is right to wear those pants, (I wouldn’t if my legs were that big, but that’s just me.) I just look at things from all sides. Call me open-minded.

I think you brought up a good point about poor vs. rich countries, but it was a simplistic view. Someone get cracking and drum up a study on poor vs. rich countries and obesity. I’ll give you a couple of days. ;-)

Here is more food for thought. Don’t you think obesity might go hand in hand with cheaper oil prices? Meaning gas is cheaper, therefore more cars are on the road and less people are walking places. Suburban sprawl plays a big part in that, too. When I’m back home near the city I walk around a lot more, taking mass transportation more often then not. Living in an area where mass transit is inconvenient it makes taking your car a lot more attractive and then you move around a lot less.

I’m in no way advocating being obese over being healthy. What I rail against is the fact that someone can say they know best and it just has to be that fat people are lazy asses who can’t stop stuffing their faces because they just don’t want to.

I don’t consider someone lucky just because they can eat and eat and not gain an ounce. I would consider myself lucky if I don’t die from the cancer that’s plagued my family in recent years.

But you know what really kills me?! The fact that I couldn’t find the Coach briefcase I so desperately wanted to get today. Oh and the fact that I forgot to use conditioner in my hair this morning; I’ve got the frizz something awful because of this humidity. Blech.

    Peace.

  26. Letitbe Says:

PerezHilton talks alot of shit about alot of people. I believe he sides w/ this woman because she is gay and so is he.

  27. mambaX Says:

    LAMO!
As I wrote, that was just an example, not rocket science, but still there are poor countries,in developmental issues, where people have access to food in easy ways.Could be the case of those islands you mentioned.
The prevalence of cancer also has a multifactorial origin.
I sure hope you don’t get it!
I have the frizz problem too.Ouch!
I can’t help envying people with straight strong luscious hair :)

  28. LAMO! Says:

    Thanks for your clarification mambaX.

One thing we’re forgetting here is that McDonalds is the devil and needs to be beaten back to the fiery depths of hell from whence it came.

It’s just shit in a bun.

  29. gokarm Says:

I think you’re misinterpreting Beth’s basic drive. She’s a rock star, and a damn good one, because Rock and roll means giving the finger to the people who disapprove of you and the way you live your life. To right the article you did, you’re just playing into her game. I applaud her, because she’s got a new approach. As for Perez…maybe he likes her just because she’s cool. Not everyone needs to make a calculated decision about who and who not to befriend.

  30. gokarm Says:

    write, not right.

  31. Lilie Says:

So the lady’s fat and wears unapropriate clothes, well, what’s wrong ? it’s her own problem. If she has the guts to face the reprobative look of people like you, I say bravo.
You don’t like to see that ? Then don’t watch.
If she likes herself like that, you got no right to judge.

Just for the information, in Europe (where I live), there’s a lot of fat people. I am fat myself (well maybe not that fat). And I think that she’s ugly. But it’s her right to be as fat as she wants and to dress like a silly piggy if she likes it.

  32. Suzi Says:

Did she say she was trying to be “sexy”?. Why can’t she wear what she wants?
I know, why don’t we just throw bin liners over all fat people and shove them into camps. Jesus.

  33. Kaylee Says:

Well, she’s definitely not sexy. And most definitely not healthy either. So, what’s the point? I see loads of un-sexy skinny people who are probably starving themselves (unhealthy) wearing tight shit and crap. So? I don’t want to see a bag of bones or just a plain ugly person wearing clothes like that. Weight doesn’t matter in that sense.

Honestly, let the person be who they are. If she wants to show off her confidence and act like she’s sexy, let her. Who are you to tell her she’s ugly? People don’t do this to ugly skinny people, they shouldn’t do it to ugly fat people.

And before using ‘ur a fat persn urself!!” argument against me, I’m an American size 8 and sometimes 9/10 depending on the style of clothing.

If you don’t like how she looks, well then, don’t look. Can’t? Then suffer. Although, I do agree obesity is serious and not healthy and it is more of a person’s gluttony than any sort of disease, medication, or slow metabolism, everyone deserves the right to wear what they want and be self confident. Even if we think they’re ugly.

So let’s leave the skinny people alone (half are probably anorexic) and the fat people (half are probably lazy ass pigs).

Must you be so immature and have nothing in your life to do but bash those who carry extra baggage?

  34. patty Says:

i’m not as big as beth, but i think it’s GREAT that she feels comfortable enough in her OWN skin to put on ANYTHING she likes.
you, on the other hand, must have ISSUES to be talking like that about her.

    really.

    BIG ISSUES.

    :)

    like an ED or something.

  35. Richard Says:

Boy she makes me shoot my load all over my keyboard…
she has a very nioce body….even may got have her soul ‘”Anna Nicole Smith” was a very sexy chubby girl

Skinny girls make me puke, when i see a skinny girl i see boulimia or anorexia.

  36. ajanec Says:

Wow. That is some serious words against Fat. You can say whatever you want but it is biggotry…..drop another word into every place you say fat…,sound familiar? That is dangerous and small minded. People can do what they want and you all can say what you want…that is good, but lets call your bigotry what it is and well, associate yourself with the kind of people who act that way…way to go. Steps for mankind……

  37. Kirri Says:

It’s not about promoting obesity as if there’s nothing unhealthy about it. The important thing that needs to change is society’s attitudes in relation to how they treat obese people. As though they’re not even human. The real message is, fat or thin, who gives a shit? If you can’t look past it, you’re a shallow idiot.

  38. Anonymous Says:

What about her talent? Or does everyone block that out because she’s overweight?

Let her do her thing, while you just look away.

  39. GREEN LOBSTER Says:

She looks sexy to me. And I so far have not heard her music!

  40. Jemma Says:

‘Sexy’ is a personal preference and although i may agree that i dont think she is ’sexy’, i admired her confidence no matter what she looks like. I constantly get told that “I’ve got legs the size of tree trunks” and to know that there is someone who is bigger than you but is still found to be attractive by people, even if it isn’t everyone, it gives me a real confidence boost to know that there is a big chance that i might be liked too… Also just want to say, Sexy is not just about appearence mate, just as i think that really skinny men and women arn’t sexy and that doesn’t mean everone has to think so.

  41. Jemma Says:

One thing i forgot… obesiety actually increase your life span and is proven to increase the amount of endorphins realised in the brain which mate you happyer. And if your saying that obesiety is an ‘epidemic’ then so are the ’skinnies’. Maybe you could think about the attitudes towards people rather then the size.

  42. Lauren1 Says:

FOr you dumb fucks who think you just know it all!!!! ANd I’m speacking from personal point of view…..First thing want to touch basis on is that I am really tired of skinny people who look down on someone who is fat because you really dont know what is around the corner for you….Oh I’m a size 8 and I feel like a pig. Give me a fucking break. Oh I went to Jenny Craig and I lost 13 pounds and I feel great. How about going to kill yourself. Hurry. I am a bery big girl who has the society to blame for my bad attitude. ANd no this is not me using the blame game card. This is from society molding me into the person I am today..I can sort of relate to the “freaks” at school that have been shooting schools up and what have you. I dont commend it but you do get tired of the shit you have to put up with when it comes to people. DO I want to be fat hell no, but I am….Is it hard to loose weight. You damn right. So for you pole pricks how about thinking from all angles…You never know you just might be that person who got injured and was a bombshell and then gets up to 350.

  43. Lauren1 Says:

Oh and another thing that sickens me when it comes to most skinny people you want to snarl your nose up at fat people you might even be the type that will see a fat person with someone cute and say “what is he/she doing with him/her”. But -for those of you that take being sikinny to a whole different level and become anorexic or bulimic and say to the world oh I have a problem I think I am as fat as “Beth Ditto’ and you are far from it. You are a walking skeleton that looks like you just came out of a concentration camp BUT you are like that because you dont want to be fat. Oh and by the way you can also DIE from being to skinny……HMMMMMM

  44. Elaina Gibbs Says:

I put the link to my now-defunct blog just for the hell of it. Anyways.

I am a fat person. YES, I think that the amount of fat-bashing that’s accepted nowadays is ridiculous and inexcusable. I think it happens because damn near NOBODY actually looks like the images, what we’re tricked into thinking of as “beautiful” according to media, culture, patriarchy, etc. NOBODY DOES. And we all think we should. But no matter how we try, we can’t. So what do we do? We scapegoat. *cocks head to the side, listens for the sound of jackboots on the wind*

To say that other forms of oppression are “bad” and that making fun of people based on their looks if they take up more space than other people is “ok” should ring out, right there. You fucking assholes are only LOOKING FOR AN EXCUSE TO MAKE FUN OF PEOPLE BECAUSE YOU FEEL BAD ABOUT YOURSELVES. End of story. You feel an entitlement, (and I would have to ask how many of you are upper-class white people???) and feel the need to hurt other people, but you have been so well-brainwashed by mainstream culture that you can’t find any real reason (’cause like I said, nobody LOOKS like the chicks on the magazine covers), in a superficial sense at the very least, to be happy with yourselves- so you have to find what you call flaws in others and cruelly, deliberately, and ALSO obnoxiously make fun of them like sixth graders on a fucking playground. You all should be ashamed, as jojo put it.

The things you all are saying here are not tough love, they are not the “hard truth,” they are CRUEL. This is sadism, not bluntness. Why does anyone have a “right” to be cruel to other people???

What the hell does anybody here actually know about this experience they are criticizing??? For the few “fat” people who have posted, I understand that it’s easier to get along if you capitulate to the dominant culture and play house-fattie; it doesn’t take as much guts to kiss ass as it does to actually fight with wrong-thinking people, I know, but you all should be ashamed of yourselves too.

There are people out there that could eat only the right things every day and exercise everyday (and yeah. a lot of us DO that, you presumptuous, snotty, superficial jack-offs) and guess what??? THEY ARE STILL FAT. It happens so frequently that you know what happens? People end up committing suicide over it. Not because they aren’t healthy, mind you- because contrary to your armchair pseudo-science you got going on here (another example of how all you shithead hipsters are so easily brainwashed it’s laughable) a person can be “fat,” “obese,” “overweight,” and — gasp— still be healthy. No. It’s because they don’t LOOK the way that idiots like you assholes posting on here think they should look. So they think, fuck it. I’m never gonna make anyone happy, and they commit suicide.

It isn’t any less of a concern than models/etc. who starve themselves into oblivion.

Nobody should feel like they deserve to die because of how they look. And what do the majority of the FUCKWADS posting on this forum do? They perpetuate just that idea. So sleep well, assholes. Make fun of whoever you want, if that’s what you want to do, but don’t try and justify it. Call it for what it is– and it is, whether or not you want to admit it, OPPRESSION. It is CRUELTY. Your can pathetically attempt to justify the attitudes all you want, and it won’t change what it is. It is a way to dehumanize another person based on how that person looks. It is a way to be mean to someone and still “feel good” about yourself. It is petty and small and indicates that the person doing it has a small mind.

I mean, does a person who works in a coal mine DESERVE black lung because she didn’t buck up and get some other job? No. Does a person who has crooked teeth or braces or skin that isn’t white or a sexual identity or expression that isn’t heteronormative or a gender that isn’t male deserve cruelty? NO. Does a person whose size doesn’t fall within a certain range that you have been tricked into believing is the only healthy one out there deserve cruelty? NO.

You are a part of the problem, not the solution, when you feel entitled to be cruel to anyone. ANYONE.

I mean, how have y’all enjoyed being called ugly names? Are you going to criticize me here for doing EXACTLY what you all are doing to people like myself?

I mean, do you think that we should be exterminated? Is that the solution to our burdensome existence, is that what should happen to us for daring (because we do it on purpose, remember???) to take up space on this planet that apparently only belongs to thin, “beautiful” (and most likely caucasian/western european/gringo, upper-class) people?

Well, I tell ya what. Go for it. Come and get us. We’ll see who wins, when a majority of the people who live in this country fall into this “disgusting” category.

And while you’re at it, kiss my fat, hairy, lesbian, feminist ass.

  45. Cherax destructor Says:

“And while you’re at it, kiss my fat, hairy, lesbian, feminist ass” Not likely! You probably cant reach around to wipe it!

  46. nico Says:

Shes cool - just unatractive. Fortunately being gorgeous isnt required for her profession - being an ENTERTAINER. I think she has been successful judging by the amount of comments posted here. How many gross guy rockers get naked (iggy pop - gross) its her style - its in your face and obviously she is trying to be as un-sexy (in a conventional way) as humanly possible. I think its safe to say many other entertainers are equally unhealthy in their lifestyles. Its just that cracked out thin rockstars look cooler to most people. I think its great. She is crazy.

  47. bunny Says:

    Why are people so hateful?

And why don’t you use spell checkers?

  48. carlos Says:

Being fat is not even in the same league as racism or any of that, i’m not gonna start this post with i’m skinny or i’m fat or i’ve travelled round europe or africa thats not important, being a fat person is due to the people around you, the way u grow up and the way u are taught, to start with your parents probably cant be bothered to cook so u eat junk food, parents cant be arsed to exercise themselves so damn the kids havent a chance, so the fat kid is born, doomed to be tourmented through early life and maybe for longer. Some motivated larger people take it on and change there life when they learn the cases of their size, and good for them, if thats what they want, then there are lazy big people just like their are lazy skinny people who just roll over and play the everyone else did this to me, well get up and stand up and sort yourself out. Beth ditto isnt hot to me but to others she is, she isnt saying shes sexy to everyone because thats impossible, but she is confident and a quality singer. Being fat is that person and their families fault, look at that show on in the UK the other day half a ton mum, unreal! Get healthy!

  49. darren Says:

    Actually she is hot

  50. mickey Says:

yeah……? i thought her point was she can do what ever she wants regardless of being fat or thin, shit i don’t even want to see a skinny chick on stage wearing what she was wearing, but she does and she looks bloody awesome…… awesome in the actual sense of the word. hey a skinny girl wouldn’t even look half as cool as she does… it would be the same old same old, she doesn’t dress up in tight clothes to impress us. i think the point was it is meant to challenge your thoughts on what is “sexy” what was “acceptable”.
when does skinny become fat when does hot become not? Why do people find it offensive and what is it that makes YOU think it is? Are people really that offended by it or is it a conditioned response to a undesirable trait that apparently signifies undesirable qualities……. people should be more self reflective.

  51. rob Says:

I love the comments from the trained monkeys in the crowd. I hope you folks continue to make yourself skinnier, shallower and more “beautiful”. You just keep making me richer and richer. The more you hate on people who don’t fit “your crowd” the more opportunities you provide companies like mine.

    Go you!

  52. cdawg. Says:

I agree totally with this article. In fact, I could’ve written it.

Sure, it’s great that she’s gay/doesn’t shave her armpits stuff like that. Shows that she doesn’t care what people think of her. But being fat is not something to be proud of. Obesity is a /health condition/. YOU ARE FAT BECAUSE YOU EAT TOO MUCH. I’m going to get totally bashed for this comment, but it’s true. If you have a slower metabolism than others, then you have to control your eating a bit more. You should know how to take care of your body.

And another thing I’m really sick of is all the skinny-bashing. Saying that very skinny people are anorexic. Believe it or not, some people are actually born very thin.

And before someone jumps down my throat, no, no one is born obese.

I’m not saying everyone has to be below a size 10, don’t be stupid.
If you have a bit of extra baggage, who cares.

But obesity like Beth Ditto is just wrong.

People comparing obesity to being gay/a certain race is absolutely ridiculous. You can’t do anything about your race, or your sexuality. You can, however, control your weight.

And, when it all comes down to it, obese people can argue all they want.
They’re the ones who are going to end up with 24634329 health problems.

Don’t you dare start about me/others being narrow-minded, etc. I am totally open to people’s ideas and styles, no matter how left of centre. But I don’t have respect for obese people, because it’s not being different, it’s being unhealthy.

  53. cdawg. Says:

have I mentioned obesity isn’t an amazingly in-your-face wonderful statement of nonconformity, it’s just really really unhealthy?

    yes?

    okay.

  54. Lesley. Says:

“But I don’t have respect for obese people, because it’s not being different, it’s being unhealthy”
Not even ones who aren’t proud of it, and who try desperatly to not be?
I don’t think you can generalise the whole of the overweight population, and sure, she doesn’t look what is accapted as beautiful and I’m not going to lie and say I think that’s an appropriate outfit for someone of her size, but at least she IS confident and is showing people who perhaps aren’t as confident not to be ashamed. And stuff it, she is like that, what do you want her to do, hide in a cave?

And I completely agree with Elaina Gibbs.

  55. dave Says:

the very same conclusion i reached. i think she’s got a great voice but her persona is overt and obnoxious in all those issues she stands for.

  56. Punky Says:

You guys can say “you only hate Beth Ditto because she’s fat!”
But I don’t. I don’t even know her, so I’m not going to judge her personality.
Beth Ditto can parade around all she wants in these skimpy clothes, but I’m not going to look. Say all you want, there IS a difference between Beth Ditto and Heidi Klum wearing those clothes.
Heidi has gorgeous, smooth, shapely legs. They are nice to look at.
Beth’s legs look like cottage cheese shoved into pantyhose. They are not nice to look at.
And I know you’re going to go “well, we’re changing the views of society!” I’m okay with that. Curves are beautiful. Rolls are not.
I am a lesbian who has struggled with my weight all of my life. I went from a size 16 (American) to a size 4, and in order to keep that weight off, I have to eat healthy. My blood pressure and cholesterol are extremely healthy. I have been through all of these issues with losing weight, and when it boils down to the basics, the issue is not society forcing you to eat and nature plotting against you–it’s you and your willpower.

  57. Anna Says:

Beth Ditto has taken up a position as a poster girl for gay rights and for fat rights. Both of these positions are not suited to her - she is trying to convey the message that obesity is a valid life choice. Obesity is dangerous, and has serious mental and physical health implcations for the person concerned.
Since championing obesity, she has also become a lesbian poster girl. As a lesbian, I feel that we need to have a ‘poster girl’ who does not conform to the overweight, tattooed, in-your-face lesbian stereotype. Beth Ditto must be stopped! I vote Jodie Foster to replace her. Whos with me?

  58. Alex Says:

It’s not her size the I find a bit of a turn off its that she’s doesn’t carry herself as a lady(I know that sounds bad) But to me a woman should act like one (at least some of the time) She however seems kinda crude to me but whatever……She’s not ugly just…well…crude

  59. Sean Says:

She was wearing a dress that went down to her knees and it rode up.
I doubt that she was planning to dance around in her underwear!
But, do you know what? She looks fucking amazing!
I love Beth and, honestly, she really isn’t that big >.>

  61. fatty Says:

While you all are shit talking and pitying the fat people… let me tell you this…

    Fuck you.

I eat food I want because it’s delish.

I have a belly thats round and soft and I LOVE IT. And so does my man.

You’re right that discrimination against fat people isn’t an issue… because no one fucking cares. Bash bash bash all you want!!!

Turns out… more than any kind of colored skin you can find… or any bizarro fetish you can dream… still the fatties are the MOST discriminated against POPULATION in our society!!! Just read this post and the responses to it!

And here’s another thing… I LIKE BEING FAT. So screw your sorry dieting food prudes… and screw not showing fat limbs… and screw coming up with excuses.

Quit looking at me funny when I enjoy being who I am just cause you buy into all that bullshit you’re sold. This is my voice and it’s coming out of FAT vocal chords from a FAT diaphragm.

You people are sooo bought on this narrow minded crap.

I’ll take Beth Ditto home any day and bury my face in her tits and laugh and laugh about the deep fathoms of your pond existences.

    No seriously.

    I’m Fat.

    and… I’m hot.

And the best part… I’m smarter than you!!!

    There’s some gossip for you.

    No apologies.

  62. Causticstorm Says:

News: Fat Bashing is the same as racism or gay bashing. Because all three are based on making an ass out of umption.

Maybe some people in this world find something other than 12 year old boys pretending to be grown women wearing the equivalent of a paper towel to be sexy.

You are simply trite, vapid, shallow and incredibly ignorant.

Welcome to the world of being a marvelous douche.

Beth Ditto kicks your ass. Deal with it. Also, I love how the person above who thinks Beth Ditto should be replaced has “Anna” for a name.

Is that her last name? First name “Pro”?

    Oh, you stupid asshats.

    XD

  63. me Says:

useless discussion…people always been arseholes and will always be. It make them feel better about themselves (haha)

  64. Jimbo Says:

y’all can say what you like. I think she’s hot. If he wasnt gay and I had the chance, I soooo would… Big is deffinitely beautiful i this case.

  65. Anonymous Says:

fuck you! you’re nothing but a fucking asshat.
beth is awesome and a badass and you’re the reason she’s trying to make people wake the fuck up and realize fat is beautiful.
its shallow misogynistic douchebags like you that make the world a shitty place to live in.
do everyone a favor and go jump off a cliff you conformist fucktard.

  66. Christy Says:

she very ugly.. shes very very grotty..

  67. Sam Says:

If by “ugly,” you mean, “insanely sexy,” then I agree with you Christy.

I sincerily hope that you are enjoying your anorexia.

  68. Adrian Says:

    Well said. I totally agree

  69. lizzy Says:

stop skinny bashing n bein insensetiv about bulimics n anorexics! if a skinny person gt up ther dressd like that she’d b slammed 4 bein a bad role model regrdless whether or not shes happy with herself! about th eatin disorders? well im a self confessed ex bulimic n its nothing 2 do with vanity or bein shallow or society n celebs.i made myself sick 4 the same reasons some people smoke, comfort eat, turn 2 alcahol- it made me feel better! the biggest v ever been is a size 8 n im now a size 6 and it suits me, the same beths size suits her! aslong as your weight conforms 2 ur body type and life style its ok 2 be a size 0 or a size 20! ps im a size 8 n weigh 8st12- so im by no means a stick insect!

  70. Lexy Says:

have to admit i havent read a lot of the later comments as i got bored BUT in my opinion, when it comes down to it this photo of beth ditto is disgusting. theres no other way to describe it. and its not necessarily because shes obese (not fat, obese), its because of HOW she has made herself look in this photo. She could still weigh the same and look so much more attractive!

The fact that some people moght think its ok to parade around like this, saying its ok to be that huge and proud is wrong, its unhealthy and unattractive. now im not saying that everyone in well developed countries, without famine issues etc etc should be as grossly skinny as the women we see in magazines. i’ll confess to you now, im a fattie, not obese but i am quite tubby and yes living in a society where fat people are “looked down on” or criticised hasnt been easy and there have been many times when ive just wanted to escape. but you know what i just buckled up and thought, fuck that, i have respect for myself and my body and i eat a healthy diet and exercise when i can so i at least maintain a healthy weight but i definately would not expose myself to the world in such a way that has beth ditto, purely because i respect my body more than that.

having said this, i also dont condone how people can stand around and so cruelly judge others with weight issues…im sure they know theyre fat and dont need to be reminded. conversly if the picture we were all looking at was of a disgustingly skinny size zero girl with nothing but bones and flesh, im sure we’d each be having a similar rant, only for the opposite reasons.

basically, fat CAN be beautiful…but Beth Ditto definately is not an illustration of this.

  71. miranda Says:

thank you thank you thank you.

i’m a healthy weight and i have never been fat so i guess i can’t know what it’s like to be huge, but the majority of fat people are not healthy. it is possible to be fat and healthy but those fat and healthy people are those rare beautiful fat people.

    beth ditto is not that.

and to compound the problem she wears clothes that are inappropriate for her size. seriously, woman, get a better wardrobe.

  72. claudia Says:

…im gonna sleep with my mom tonight.

  73. maja Says:

    I fucking love beth.
So what if it’s not healthy?
There a way more super-skinny anorexic people in the media
    and that’s definetly not healthy.
    She is amazing.

  74. Aj Says:

Morbid obesity can NEVER be cool.

Beth Shitto is disgusting from head to tail. She is vile and a disgrace to women, and in fact, to the entire human race.

maja Says: “I fucking love beth.”

Yes maja, and I’m sure I know why.

It’s time you stopped stuffing your fat face with pies and got down the gym.

  75. steph Says:

    Shes FAT [&&] UGLY

    Nuff sed

  76. Adam Says:

All you haters need to go fuck yourselves.

Beth is a goddess as far as I’m concerned- she is beautiful and is doing what she wants to do, which is what I love about her.

To quote a very wise woman, “Next time you think about treating people like shit, maybe you’ll think about how fucking hard it is to do what you want to do.
Art is powerful and it is the only power that matters in this shitty, fucked up world; and if it weren’t for artists, they would have killed this motherfucker by now.”

  77. UKLYLLJT Says:

To be quite fair, she’s a singer, and a damn fucking good singer too, and even if you do think of her as ‘morbidally obese’ or ‘ugly’ (which, might I add, are 2 completely different things and just because someone’s fat doesn’t mean they’re ugly) you still have to admit that she has one amazing fucking voice, and amounts to a lot more than most of you ever will. A lot of you seem to be labouring under the idea that you can and will get through life solely on your looks.
I’m not gonna stick up for the fact that she is fat, because that is her own choice, and more power to her if that’s the way she chooses to live her life, but all of you have to admit that she has way more talent than most celebreties that you all look up to will ever have.
I almost didn’t understand why, when confronted with a picture of Beth Ditto, so many of you just commented on her appearance, but then I remembered that apparently it means more to so many people than actual talent. Do none of you have ‘fat’ friends, then? Or do you just shun them away as well?
This is all due to a lack of acceptance towards difference and straying from the norm. People are brought up believing that this is how you have to be and if you look like that then you’ll never get anywhere in life, but no-one looks like those enhanced barbie dolls on the front of the latest fucking magazine and you all know that.
No, I’m not fat - nor am I skinny. I have a stupidly slow metabalism and I eat properly and excercise, which is what most people in her situation do; she had that choice, but chose to stay the way she wants to be, and you should admire her for that, not slag her off on some random gossip site.
How you all have the audacity to talk about someone that you’ve never met before and don’t even know like that I will never know, but I, for one, am releived to see a role model for bigger teens in a generation of models, actresses, singers and the like that are so small that they barely even fall into a size category; showing that you can be something no matter how many cunts out there tell you that, unless you get down to a size 6, you’ll never work in an industry where you’ll barely ever get seen anyway, and where half the artist’s work is enhanced to pretend that they have a voice half as good as Beth’s.
She is standing up for all the things she believes in - Quite literally standing in the way of control. She campaigns her thoughts even though she obviously knows what all you cunts will say about her, and the more you rant about how ugly and fat she is, the more contreversially famous she becomes. Good luck with that one.
As she said: ‘To be zero - that is your ultimate goal in life; not to be smart or appreciated. The biggest thing in your life is to be nothing.’

  78. Adam Says:

    I love you UKLYLLJT :)

  79. SoSexy Says:

I’m so surprised that in all of the thoughtful, well-written (uh, and the others) retorts, no one has pointed out that sexy is not how you look. Sure, that can be part of it, but it’s really something else entirely, isn’t it? Sexy is often completely subjective, and in my opinion, has more to do with self confidence than appearance. Beth Ditto clearly has the self confidence thing slayed.

  80. simon Says:

this is soo stupid that this was taken this far

what she’s doing with herself isn’t hurting you so drop it and get a life of your own and stop worrying about hers

  81. karli Says:

she is just happy with herself.
    Not promoting obesity.

    It’s as simple as that.

  82. Kaela Says:

Dude, she’s just a different kind of person.
Nobody is asking you to lick her feet.
    I personally think she’s hot (I’m a girl)
I don’t think fat women are hot because they’re fat, I just like good looking people, and I like how she looks.
I don’t think fat guys are hot. Average guys are hot. That’s just me. You’re being just as stupid as you would be if you said Gay people suck.
You just don’t get in trouble for saying fat people suck. Maybe you should.

  83. Livvy Says:

FK YOU! beth ditto is the most amazing person EVER and she isnt gross at all! Shes the best and shes amazing and shes indescribably just.. well fucking amazing okay..

  84. RaZoo Says:

Beth is HOTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTT,…. and believe it or not i am NOT the only one who thinks so. Some men loooove a lot of woman, without having to think that skinny women or nasty, and i am damnnnnn sure one of them. Do your thing Beth!!!

  85. Rhiannon Says:

I’m absolutely blown away that someone can state that they don’t respect fat people…because they’re fat. I’ve met many brilliant people, some of them fat, and I respect them for their intelligence, integrity, humanity. Broad generalizations are dangerous. And I can’t help but think of my size 2 friend who eats all the “wrong” things (sometimes in great quantities) and drinks sugary cocktails many nights a week but doesn’t gain an ounce–just because her poor diet isn’t evident in her size doesn’t mean she’s healthy. But hey, she’s happy and I love her dearly and that’s what counts in the end–we’re all dying, some of us will simply discover our mortality sooner than the rest.

  86. dawench Says:

I dunno. she looks pretty hot to me. my husband agrees. but why the fuck should it matter. she’s got a better thing going for her than any of you silly fuckwits, fat or no. I don’t particularly find matt damon or keira knightly hot, but other people would disagree. I don’t think they’re crazy for it, I just have different tastes.

either way, I really doubt she gives a fuck what any of us think: she’s doing what she loves, she’s happy. we’re lame ass little losers talking about her in a blog, because we have nothing better or more worthy to contribute to our lives. let’s get a life and let the girl do what the fuck she wants.

  87. lulu Says:

i think she is so anerexic i8mean look at her its gross

  88. chappy Says:

I want girls like that for my website http://www.n-shit.com/
she would look good getting fucked by people in clown costumes

  89. chappy Says:

I bet if I ate her pu$$y I would not be able to hear the music

  90. Anonymous Says:

The problem isn’t that you are bashing fat people, it’s that you are saying Beth Ditto is representative of fat people…which she isn’t. It IS fine to weigh extra, it is fine to show off what you have…but frankly, Beth Ditto is a gutter punk and that is how she wants people to see her. Beth Ditto is fine with her weight not because she wants to empower BBW, but because she is interested in showing people that she doesn’t care.

Normal people, skinny or fat, don’t walk around like that. Her being fat has no reflection on the world of heavy people except that she clearly could care less about herself and what people think. I’m not saying everyone should go out and eat a gallon of ice cream because it’s okay to be overweight, but I am saying her actions have no reflection on heavy people, but more a reflection the punk culture she is trying to show herself as being part of.

  91. chappyreport Says:

she sat on a quarter and a bugger came out of Washingtons nose

  92. BBW=OXYMORON Says:

IT er she is DISGUSTING! Beyond gross,if I ever get that fat may cancer strike me dead first!

KILL YRSELF BETH U OBESE PIECE OF SHIT!

  93. Nicole Says:

Generally, I believe people’s weight should be their own issue. This woman is putting herself out there on purpose. Those clothes are not appropriate for any size person to wear. I’m not a prude. I’m not modest, I am very comfortably with nudity, but I feel that dressing provocatively is a way of drawing attention to oneself. It’s obvious to me when a person is dressing to please themself or dressing to get ‘negative’ attention from others. This woman is not healthy, but that is her own issue. Our growing obesity rate is a big problem, and so is being underweight. Both are hard to fix. Regardless, people come in all shapes and sizes, and the world would be a better place if people would accept that, and not make such a big deal about it. However, Beth Ditto most likely would benefit from medical attention, a better diet and a good exercise regime. If she values her health, she will get some help, if not for herself, for the people who like her music. Heathy people generally live longer, and being big and HEALTHY would be a good example for people, given that she is somewhat of a role model, as are all people in the media, whether they like it or not.

  94. Dirty Diana Says:

I keep calling a girl at work Beth just becuase she is a big fat ass cunt like Beth Ditto. I tell my co-workers to google Beth Ditto and see what a big ass fucking cunt looks like they get excited.

  95. alice Says:

people who thinks that being fat is just a consecuence of bad eating habits are fools. and ignorant.
I’ve been fat and obese since puberty (and not before) and I eat just, if not less and better, as my thin friends. but I have a chronic diseas called policystic ovaries that causes me to be fat and to be unfertile. and it’s not curable by just taking a pill. in fact, I think it’s not curable at all. I can loose weight, I can weight 75-80 kilos with diet and gym, but under that I can’t fisically go. you get it now? I can’t wear most of the clothes out there, I can’t run, I can’t sit on my boyfriend lap, and I can’t have babies.
so please, please, please: for once try to think that not everybody are the same, that it’s not our choice to be obese. and that our lifes are already a struggle without you moralist morons keep telling us it’s our fault.

I think too beth ditto is not a great seen, but at least she’s happy with herself.

  96. Jill Says:

Beth Ditto is a talented singer/punk rocker/rule breaker. Keep on girl!!

  97. interesting Says:

I was highly dissapointed by the tone which this article fell into. It started out with one persons opinion had some interesting discussions on medical obesity and then descended into kids hurling insults at each other.

Can I point out that the young lady in question probably couldn’t care less what we all think and would be foolish if she did. However as we live in this very odd celebrity obsessed world we feel justified to make comments about anyone, Yes she is wearing short shorts, I know some men that wear shorts that small and some very slim women that do, some don’t look as good as others but if they like it, why complain.

The only difference with a celebrity is the fact they know that people will notice and at times play up to the camera and to get a reaction. She may have a lot to say but why is the young lady considered more of a hero than say someone’s gran who fought in a war.

She sings…… has she got a noble peace prize?? Any kind of human rights award?? Has she found a cure for cancer?? No but she does make people enjoy themselves. Which is valuable but the lady is no goddess, she’s an ordinary girl who is larger than some.

She can defend herself I’m sure, why does anyone else need to do it for her and with abusive language.

  98. Paul Says:

I really wish people would stop calling them short shorts!

    SHE IS IN HER UNDERWEAR
her dress was riding up revealing HER UNDERWEAR
she ISN’T parading around in short shorts

  99. Jesus Says:

    Lovely!
Continue getting these comments baby, you are a goddess among this ugly girls, and you know it!

  100. Beck Says:

So. I do enjoy the Gossip’s music. And I think its really cool that she is comfortable with herself and that she is showing that bigger people can be talented and awesome too. I am a bit chubby myself, and so this all makes me feel slightly better. HOWEVER; she is in her underwear. Sometimes she even strips to her bra. That is not good in my standards. I don’t enjoy seeing skinny people half naked, so its not just that its not aesthetically pleasing, it has to do with class. Unfortunately she is not showing any in this picture. She does have an amazing voice, and I admire her in a lot of ways. But I would most definitely prefer her to be clothed.

  101. michelle Says:

My two cents: I don’t think Beth Ditto has any more right to be a role model for women as stupid Paris, anorexic Nicole, cracked-out Amy or slutty Britney do. Fat people might have a genetic predisposition to being fat but you can’t tell me that Ditto actually takes proper care of herself.

My girlfriend has a thyroid problem. It’s genetic and been passed on through several generations. Without care it causes morbid obesity. But she exercises. She eats meat, dairy, bread, fruits and veggies from local organic farmers. In moderation. And she’s 115lb. Guess what? She takes care of her condition.

I suffer from depression but I’ve followed many research claims and use exercise instead of pills and somehow I don’t have huge weight gain problems (or weight loss problems in my wallet).

It’s hard for diabetics to give up sugar and for alcoholics to give up booze. Does it mean they shouldn’t? Does that means they should publicly parade their sick selves around and tell the world it’s okay not to make an extra effort when you have a problem? Ask the influx of obese children who stuff MacDonald’s burgers in their mouths by the dozen.

  102. Jamie Says:

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bigotry

  103. Laura Says:

why talk so much about what she looks like? she is fucking wicked I love her voice and her band if she is overweight that is her business just like if Amy winehouse wants to smoke crack its her business I buy gossip c.ds because I like the music that is all that should matter.

  104. susan Says:

some of you people are so fucking boring. who gives two shits what she looks likes- she is doing her own thing, which is more than I can say for the majority of celebrities. and I agree with those who say that slurs about obesity come from bigots. you have your own fucking problems, just like every person in the world- and if someone happens to eat what they shouldn’t, why is it any different from anyone else’s vice? I’m sure there is less hype about an anorexic celebrity.

anyway, I’d like to say that Beth Ditto is fucking cool, and if you disagree, don’t pretend it’s because of concern over her potential health issues.

A debate regarding the fat bashing of a rock star (who incidentally, could give two shits what stupid people think) is an interesting outcome to Beth’s extravagance. This much needed discussion of fatism wouldn’t occur if she wasn’t so brazen. DOWN WITH FATISM!!!

Secondly, the one known as Beth Ditto did not intend on becoming the sensation she is. They were playing music and having fun. I know MANY musicians who are in that same frame of mind. However, because Gossip’s music rocks and their shows are legendary, she couldn’t help but be famous. I have to congratulate her. Not only for her success but because, she is one of a very few celebrities who, through many avenues, uses her clout to enact a positive influence on the minds of humanity. YAY! ACTIVISM!!!

Finally, Beth Ditto IS hot. I’m not pleasantly voluptuous, but I FULLY appreciate full women. Have you ever had sex with a woman who possesses appreciative amounts of hormones? It’s crazy fun. Sex with large women is honestly the hottest experience going. CHUBBY CHASERS UNITE!!!

First off, I hate those shorts, they look like some kind of 80s spandex nightmare. They are just about the most unflattering item Beth Ditto could have chosen to wear, they make her legs look huge and extremely pale, and although if anyone could pull off normally unflattering clothes it’s her, they just aren’t nice.
Looking at the photos, I think they’re way too tight. The shorts cut into her thighs, making her legs look a lot bigger than they really are. Whether people are skinny or fat, they should always wear clothes that fit! I have a friend who is probably a UK size 10, but she insists on squeezing into size 8 jeans just because she can and she gets the classic muffin top syndrome. It drives me mad because if she bought jeans that fitted, she would look a lot better!
Anyway, despite the fact that those shorts would look nasty and cheap on anyone regardless of size, there’s the fact that clothes that tiny look better on skinny people. They just do. I’m not against fat people, and I’m definitely not supportive of fat people wearing clothes that resemble shower curtains just to cover up, but wearing tiny shorts/underwear isn’t right either.
On the other hand, if she’s trying to send out a message that fat girls can’t be forced to wear sacking, fair enough. I love Beth Ditto, music and style. Usually she looks great, although I sometimes look at her and wonder if she got dressed in the dark, but it’s always fun and unique. But wearing clothing to make a statement doesn’t always mean wearing clothing that suits you/flatters you. It just depends whether you want to look good, or promote discussion. Having said that, I’m pretty sure she could have combined the two without those shorts.

okay..so I’ve read a bunch of these comments and you know what…it just makes me so sad to see how crappy and small minded people can be..I’ve been overweight for just about forever, I’ve tried so many things. I’m had tests done to check for thyroid problems and nothing seems to be wrong. I diet and excerise. A little over two years ago i quit smoking and quit drinking all sodas and cut out caffeine. I lost about ten pounds and that was it.I slowly gained it back. Then this past June my dad when into the hospital and I decided to try to cut even more unhealthly things out of my diet. I swore off all fast food and Starbucks and sweet tea. I haven’t had any of those things since then and again, I lost about ten pounds and nothing else. I’ve slowly gained that back also. I just started Aspen Clinic. I didn’t want to have to turn towards medication but I felt like I had no choice, I’ve tried other methods and nothing works. So far i’ve lost 13 pounds which is awesome, I’m really hoping this works for me. The next step if it doesn’t will have to be lapband or gastric bypass surgery. I don’t understand, I eat way way way less than most people do. I eat small amounts of food about twice a day usually in the morning then again that late afternoon. A lot of times the entire day will go by and I’ll realize that I hadn’t eaten since that morning..and I don’t feel hungry. I don’t think of food all day like most people seem to think us fat chicks do. It’s really hard..I’ve gotten to a point that I’m so sick out it I just don’t know know what to do. If one more person tells me “You got such a pretty face.” I’ll go nuts. Sometimes fat people can’t control the fact that they are overweight. I don’t feel overweight..but then I look in the mirror and feel trapped. I don’t wear the kinds of clothes this girl Ditto does because I’m embarrassed by the way I look even though I shouldn’t because it’s not like I’m sitting on the couch all day eatting extra king sized burgers and fries..I try to help myself. On my birthday I was out with some friends at a bar and this cute guy started talking to me, I told him it was my birthday and we chatted for a little then all of a sudden he says to me..”So..tell me..why don’t you do anything about yourself?” I didn’t understand..he says again “I mean, how can you go out in public looking like this? It’s just not acceptable. Being fat like this is not acceptable. You are not acceptable.” Just thinking of what he said to me is bringing tears to my eyes right now. I couldn’t believe someone could be so horrible as to say something like to another person. I didn’t tell anyone what he said, I just went home to cry to myself on my birthday. My point from all of this is..some of you need to try not to judge others so much because you never know why things are the way they are, plus it’s just really hurtful.

So Britney and all of the skinny girls can wear little short shorts but not Beth? I’m not exactly skinny as a twig and you know what I would never have the balls to do what she does. I think is skinny girls can show off their bodies then so can girls with meat. Get over it.
